DeRosa slowed, K Greene gets home start
ST. LOUIS — Newly acquired Mark DeRosa was making his first start for the St. Louis Cardinals when Khalil Greene made his last start at Busch Stadium. On June 28, against the Minnesota Twins, DeRosa made his debut a few hours after being acquired from Cleveland, and he started in left field to make room for Greene to start at third base.
Tonight Greene will make his first start at Busch since that day, doing so in place of DeRosa.
The lineup posted this afternoon outside of the Cardinals clubhouse is missing DeRosa, who was a late scratch with a tight back Sunday in Pittsburgh. With DeRosa on the mend — the Cardinals have heretofore called it a day-to-day ailment — Greene gets his second start in as many days. These are his first two starts since his second return from the disabled list because of what the team called social anxiety disorder. Greene went 2-for-7 on the road trip, including a 1-for-4 turn in his start Sunday. He has RBIs in consecutive games, including one on a key pinch-hit appearance against the New York Mets this past week.
The lineup:
- Skip Schumaker, 2B
- Colby Rasmus, CF
- Albert Pujols, 1B
- Matt Holliday, LF
- Rick Ankiel, RF
- Khalil Greene, 3B
- Yadier Molina, C
- Brendan Ryan, SS
- Kyle Lohse, P

Spoke briefly with Cincinnati Reds third baseman Scott Rolen – he’s scheduled to meet with the media at 5 p.m. St. Louis time — and he does not expect to play in this series. He is still feeling the cobwebs of post-concussion syndrome, and there could be a decision today about whether he’ll go on the disabled list because of the symptoms.

Derrick Goold said he was going to Mizzou for capital-J journalism, but after growing up in the Time Zone Baseball Forgot he was really drawn to MU sitting between two major-league cities. Goold joined the Post-Dispatch in 2001 after working for The Times-Picayune and Rocky Mountain News, covering sports from LSU to NHL and every level of baseball in between.
Greene over Lugo or Thurston: YUCK! I hope he doesn’t freak out and vomit on Ryan’s shoe or something…
i hate to see skip playin everyday
put lugo to play skip just hit
ground out ground out wao
Khalil is hitting the ball a bit. Not the worst choice TLR could have made. Joe Thurston would have been the worst choice TLR could have made.
Welcome back Scott Rolen, your appearance in this series reminds me ever so much of the way your last three years were… Rolen: DNP (no legit reason). Good luck sir!
I dont give a D@MN what the matchups are Luddy needs to be in there everyday. These games are too important to be giving at bats away. Ank & Raz have been our two most inconsistent bats (except for Duncan) all year so how do you justify having them both in the lineup as the same time and having Studwick on the bench? LaRussa’s logic and decision making is fricking MADDENIGN at times.
No Ludwick = No W

im guessing cueto is a righty hence the left handed hitting outfield and Luddy has been slumping anyway. I root for k. greene to get some pop in hsi bat but odubt it. would rather see Lugo i there. We may be flauting K. Green for the red sox who have expressed interest.
Betcha Shu opens the game with a groundout to 2nd. I agree with maxatlof that Ludwick should be in there.
It’s okay Khalil, take a deep breathe and relax. I know it’s a lot to put up with out there when forty thousand people are cheering from you, the fresh air coming into your lungs, the birds flying above, and the smell of all that beer and food. Take a deep breathe, I’m just glad that I don’t have to have the kind of stress you have at your job as I sit here and guide these planes to the ground out at Lambert Airport.
I don’t understand why LaRussa won’t play Ludwick. Top 15 in RBI in league. Yet this stupid manger sits him to show how many line ups he can post. Probably been 10 games in front with a good baseball man which I don’t consider LaRussa to be and I have been around baseball for over 50 yrs.
