DENVER — St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Brendan Ryan took a pitch off his right hand when he attempted to bunt in the sixth inning of today’s game against Colorado. Ryan turned to bunt at a pitch and got clipped on the right hand. He left the game, and infielder Joe Thurston finished the at-bat.

Ryan has a bruised index finger on his right hand. That’s not to be confused with the sprained pinky he has on his left hand. He’s being called “day-to-day”, according to the Cardinals.

Ryan was 1-for-3 with a run scored today before the failed bunt.

Hey Brendan… stop hurting your fingers. We kinda need you.

Lets just swing away and leave the bunt on the bench until the playoffs. Surely these guys won’t forget how to bunt by that time. It’s to the point that every time someone squares to bunt I cringe at the thought of a season ending injury.

Did any one notice that Pujols ran us into that lose with his bad base running? He should have only went half way to 2nd. The game would have been tied. He was too aggressive.

So Darren, since we have the 2nd/3rd best record in the league, would it better if we beat the >500 teams and lose to the <500 teams?

Dave - Pujols was given the hit-and-run sign on that play I believe, so that’s why he was already around second. Barmes making that catch was just an unlucky break; that’s baseball. Besides that, I’m not going to complain about Pujols and his aggressiveness. He’s a winner, and still playing 100% effort in games even though we’ve clinched a playoff spot. We’ll need his aggressive play to win in the postseason; and he leads the Cards in stolen bases nonetheless. I just want everyone to stay healthy, and fresh for October. GO CARDS!!!

Right on jayjay - let me guess, darren, you’re probably a Braves fan?? You wouldn’t be bitter if you didn’t have to rely on other teams to help yours into the playoffs. If not the Braves, then, whomever you may be a fan of, we’re going to beat in the postseason anyway on our way to another NL leading 11th World Series! It’s a whole new ballgame in October, and nobody gave the Cards a shot in 2006 either, so look out!

That’s okay Terry, I’ve prefer we lost that one to the Rockies anyway. I do not want the Braves starting pitching in the playoffs. They’re too darn good for our pop-gun offense. Go Rockies!!!
