Holliday revelry with Florida’s Nolasco on the mound
ST. LOUIS — Rookie Colby Rasmus continues to find his place in the middle of the St. Louis Cardinals lineup as a lefthanded intrusion on the Cardinals righthanded muscle. Rasmus, worked over by Atlanta’s Javier Vazquez like so many Cardinals on Sunday, returns to the No. 5 spot in the order for tonight’s game against the visiting Florida Marlins.
Chances are he’ll get a few at-bats with runners on base, at least.
Matt Holliday, the Cardinals’ cleanup hitter, is 6-for-8 with two home runs in his career against Marlins starter Ricky Nolasco. He has no strikeouts, no walks and a 1.175 slugging percentage against the righthander. Albert Pujols is only slightly behind Holliday with four hits in 10 at-bats against Nolasco, including a home run. He too has always put the ball in play against the righty.
Troy Glaus is 4-for-6 in his career against Nolasco, but will start the game on the bench.
The game features two of the 10 worst ERAs in the National League from starters, with Nolasco’s 5.23 (and dropping) ERA pitted against Todd Wellemeyer’s 5.62 (and holding) ERA.
The lineup from the Cardinals’ clubhouse:
- Schumaker, 2B
- Lugo, SS
- Pujols, 1B
- Holliday, LF
- Rasmus, CF
- Ludwick, RF
- DeRosa, 3B
- LaRue, C
- Wellemeyer, P

Where is Brenden Ryan?
With Ryan going 0-3 yesterday, Albert convinced Tony to play Lugo! If Lugo starts hitting we may not see Ryan for a long time! Unless of course the pitchers ask for him!
Wllemeyer “holding?” NO! NO NO NO NO NO NO!
The Colonel is done. To the glue factory with him! Smoltz in the pen, with Hawk, to lock it down. If needed, Boggs can certainly make a well-timed October start (cf. Reyes, Anthony, 2006).

Seriously, can we please be done with Wellemeyer now? How many times does he need to get rocked before TLR puts him down. He’s awful. Actually, I’m embarassed for even writing that since it’s so obvious. Oh well. We won! Go Cards!
