CINCINNATI _ Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina, who left today’s game in the fifth inning when he tweaked his sore left knee while running out a single, is not seriously hurt and should play tomorrow night at home against Milwaukee, manager Tony La Russa said after the Cardinals’ 13-0 victory over Cincinnati.

Molina was making his first start since last Saturday when he suffered a bruised knee in Colorado when hit by a foul tip.

Chris Carpenter’s six runs batted in, matching his total for his career which had consisted of 287 at-bats, beat Hall of Famer Bob Gibson’s record by one for RBI by a Cardinals pitcher in one game since RBI stats began to be kept for pitchers after 1920. Gibson, who also hit a grand slam in his game, drove in five runs against the New York Mets in Busch Stadium on July 26, 1973.

Who’d a thunk that Carp would eclipse the all time Cardinal record for RBI in a game by a pitcher. Baseball_ya just never know!

let me get this straight. He tweaked his sore knee and he doesn’t get the day off?

Tony - please do not risk further injury to Yadi and give him tomorrow, and if needed, Saturday off!!

One thing about Yadi is that he could break his leg and still not run any slower than he already does.

Yadi has been my favorite Redbird since his first or second yesr. Tomorrow he has the chance to catch the last game of the NL Cy Young Award Winner. He’s a gamer. There’s no way he sits on the bench for that one. You’d have to tie him down. That’s why he’s my favorite. Well, that and the fact he’s without peer behind the plate.

Did I read right? Yadi was “running out” a single.? That’s news right there! Just kidding (sort of) I still love Yadi!

So now we see why he doesn’t run hard every time.

Sure would like to know what Gibby had to say when Tony called to tell him about Carp breaking his record. I wouldn’t be surprised to hear that Gibby was watching the game and saw it happen.

Exactly when did Yadi’s injury change from “pulled quad” to “aggravated the bruised knee”. I fear I must have missed something somewhere. Being in Wyoming I really have to dig for Cards info. And, is it just me, or is this newspaper really scraping for things to print? I can get the brunt of their stories in less than 10 minutes lately. I’m not really complaining, just noticing a few things. I love the PD and St. Louis. Just think that there has to be more stories than Yadi and rubbing pitchers balls.
