Cubs, Padres say potential trade for Jake Peavy is off
St. Louis Post-Dispatch
San Diego Padres general manager Kevin Towers told the Chicago Tribune that it doesn’t look like there will be a deal between the teams for pitcher Jake Peavy.
“The more [Cubs general manager] Jim [Hendry] looked at it, the more he decided he wasn’t going to do the deal,” Towers told the paper.
The Padres were talking to the Cubs about a possible three- or four-team deal that would have ended up with Peavy going to Chicago.
The Tribune said the Cubs would turn their focus to outfielder Milton Bradley.
The San Diego Union-Tribune says it will take Towers until next week to decide what to do about Peavy.

The Padres have to move Peavy - they can’t pay him what his contract calls for. They are over a barrel. Peavy just became “low hanging fruit”. Call for Mr. Mozeliak.
I agree, now’s the time to make a steal. Give them ne of the outfielders and a good Triple-A prospect, I don’t care who. It’s obvious the Padres need to dump his salary.
I think it is pretty wild he’s here and nobody knows it. I didn’t even know who he was. When we were getting our bags, some posed for a picture with him. I had to stand real close and read his baggage tag while he was waiting for the rest of his bags to find out his name. I check the internet on my phone to verify what he looked like and sure enough it was definately him.
