“Hairspray” plays the Muny
“Hairspray” will close the Muny season next summer - the youngest, hippest show on the outdoor theater’s 2009 schedule.
“Hairspray” has played St. Louis before, at the Fox Theatre. But this its first production at the Muny. A Tony-winning hit based on a John Waters movie, “Hairspray” tells the story of a chubby, self-confident teenager who battles racial segregation and finds a dreamy boyfriend. She’s a busy girl - not to mention, a very good dancer.
Here’s the Muny lineup for 2009:
June 15-21: “42nd Street”
June 22-30 - “Annie” (2 extra shows)
July 6-12: “Meet Me in St. Louis”
July 13-19: “Godspell”
July 20:26: “The Music Man”
July 27-August 2: “Camelot”
August 3-9: “Hairspray”
Season tickets go on sale March 28. Single tickets go on sale May 30.

I was hoping for Spamalot, but Hairspray is a good choice for an otherwise season of “safe” shows.
not a fave of mine–but an improvement over the relics they usually dust off and prop up…oh wait a sec…that pretty much describes every show that comes before “Hairpsray” this season.
Never mind.
I thought Hairspray was coming to The Fox this year.
Does anyone else miss the “good ole days” when the Muny brought in actual touring companies with big name stars? They were just so much more enjoyable than making the Muny just another local production venue.
