The St. Louis Art Museum has loaned “Venus Victorious,” a sculpture by the popular Impressionist painter Pierre-Auguste Renoir to the city of Clayton. The six-foot tall sculpture has been installed in Shaw Park’s Centennial Garden. The sculpture, which depicts a nude Venus displaying the apple bestowed upon her by Paris in the famous competition among three beauties, has been a longtime fixture of the museum’s Sculpture Terrace. “While we remain open throughout our expansion project, we have begun moving works and closing a few galleries in order to safeguard the collection,” museum assistant director for curatorial affairs Andrew Walker sa id. “Keeping works on view through loans presents a great opportunity for collaboration and will introduce our collection to new audiences.” (DB)
