One of the quintessential Viennese operettas, Franz Lehar’s “Die Lustige Witwe (The Merry Widow)” is also one of the most popular of all time. Light, frothy, tuneful and fun, it tells the story of a wealthy young widow who’s obliged to marry for the good of her country – and the former lover she encounters while she’s fighting off suitors. Union Avenue Opera will give it in German with projected titles. It should all make for a happy evening at the theater. Artistic director Scott Schoonover conducts; Jolly Stewart directs.
