CraneWatch: The Big Read
Adam Crane, St. Louis Symphony Orchestra director of communications - he’s the one in the center of the photo - is the man chiefly responsible for the book and movie “The Soloist,” says the actual author of the book, Los Angeles Times columnist Steve Lopez.
That’s because Crane, in his previous job as director of communications at the Los Angeles Philharmonic, is the one who made the decision to open a rehearsal by the orchestra to Lopez and Nathaniel Anthony Ayers, the mentally ill homeless musician Lopez saw first as a story and then as a friend.
That makes it appropriate that Crane should be wearing a lanyard that says “Author” for the Big Read this Saturday. He’ll be interviewed by fellow SLSO employee Eddie Silva from 2 to 2:45 pm in Author Tent B at Clayton High School, Mark Twain Circle and Topton Way.
