Slatkin delays return to podium again
St. Louis Symphony Orchestra conductor emeritus Leonard Slatkin, who suffered a heart attack while conducting in Rotterdam on November 1, was overly ambitious in his plans to return to the podium.
Slatkin, 65, had originally intended to conduct his present band, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, in concerts November 19 through 21. Those had to be canceled. Now he’s also canceled plans to conduct there December 10; his replacement this time is Andrew Litton.
Meanwhile, this week, the Los Angeles Philharmonic has replaced Slatkin in its “West Coast, Left Coast” concerts with two fill-in conductors, John Adams and Jayce Ogren.
Slatkin’s current plans are to take off from conducting duties until after the first of the year.
