Contemporary Announces Great Rivers Biennial Jurors
The Contemporary Art Museum has announced that Douglas Fogle, Melissa Franklin and Laura Steward will serve as jurors for the next Great Rivers Biennial, to be held in 2010. A collaboration between the Contemporary and the Gateway Foundation, the biennial has become one of the defining events on the Contemporary’s calendar since its debut in 2004. During its three earlier presentations, artists chosen have included Jill Downen, Kim Humphries, Adam Frelin, Matt Strauss and Juan William Chavez. Biennial winners receive an exhibition, a curatorial essay and $20,000 – (up from $15,000 the first two years). The jurors are all from outside the St. Louis area and have distinguished careers. Fogle, formerly of the Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh, where he organized the 2008 Carnegie International, is now chief curator at the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles; Franklin is director of the Pew Fellowships in Philadelphia; and Steward is director of SITE Santa Fe in New Mexico.
