Customized art cars at White Flag Projects
You won’t find the St. Louis Art Museum offering to customize your car with vinyl slogans for free - and maybe that’s just as well. But White Flag Projects, arts community agitator Matt Strauss’s non-profit art place, is doing just that.
And not just anyone will be doing the customizing. Steve Powers, a graffitist gone legit - he’s moved off the streets to the such prestigious exhibition venues as the Venice Biennale, Deitch Projects in New York and the Philadelphia ICA - will be doing the tagging, er, adhering.
The vinyl patches won’t damage your car and are easily removable, it is promised. White Flag guarantees that they will bear Powers’ trademark wit and sensitivity to language. If you want to vet examples of above before you hand your chariot over to him, check out his solo show, “2 Fists of Iron and a Bottle of Beer,” now on view in the gallery through June 7.
The happening takes place from 2 to 6 p.m., Saturday, May 16. White Flag Projects is at 4568 Manchester near the corner of Kingshighway. 314-531-3442 or whiteflagprojects.org for more info.
