Sarah Bryan Miller
Post-Dispatch Classical Music

The St. Louis Symphony Orchestra performs music of Ravel, Bartók and Richard Strauss, 8 p.m. Nov. 28 and 29, Powell Symphony Hall, 718 N. Grand. $15.50 to $105; special $20 ticket offer. 314-534-1700 or www.slso.org.

It’s Thanksgiving weekend, you’ve got the entire family visiting, and the burden of entertaining them all is starting to weigh heavily on you. What to do?

Well, you might consider taking them to hear the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra. Not only is it a delightful, accessible program – with Marc Albrecht conducting, and music including Maurice Ravel’s “Mother Goose” Suite, the ever-charming Orli Shaham soloing in Béla Bartók’s Piano Concerto No. 3, and two of Richard Strauss’ most enjoyable tone poems, “Don Juan” and “Till Eulenspiegal’s Merry Pranks” – but it’s a bargain. When you buy three or more tickets, you can get good seats for just $20 each (instead of $38.50 and $49.50) and really good seats for just $30 (instead of $76.50 and $92). It’s fun for all ages, so get them out of the house, out of your hair and into a concert with one of the world’s great orchestras. You can really give thanks for this one.
