Marc Copland Trio coming to 560 Music Center
Calvin Wilson
St. Louis Post-Dispatch

One of the most esteemed pianists in jazz, Marc Copland is also known for the company he keeps. His current trio includes two of the music’s best players: bassist Gary Peacock and drummer Bill Stewart.

So if you’re a jazz fan, you should make it your business to hear Copland and company when they perform on Feb. 13 in the Des Lee Auditorium at 560 Music Center, located at 560 Trinity Avenue in University City. The concert is presented by the Washington University Department of Music.

Copland started out as a saxophonist, but it’s as a pianist that he’s made his mark.  Whether performing standards or originals, his sound is at once modern and mesmerizing. Peacock is also a member of the Standards Trio led by Keith Jarrett, and Stewart has played alongside top jazzers from saxophonist Joe Lovano to bassist Dave Holland.

The show is at 8 p.m. Admission is $20; discounts available. Call Metrotix at 314-534-1111.
