If you’ve wondered why St. Louis doesn’t seem to attract more “out there” jazz acts, here’s good news: saxophonist Peter Brotzmann is performing on June 12 at the Lemp Neighborhood Arts Center.

According to the Penguin Guide to Jazz Recordings, Brotzmann “has become a godfather figure to free-jazz explorers.” Anyone who enjoys the music of Ornette Coleman, Cecil Taylor or John Coltrane in his later period should definitely check Brotzmann out.

The show is at 7 p.m. at the arts venue at 3301 Lemp Avenue. Tickets are $8 in advance, $10 at the door. Also performing in a separate show at 9 p.m. will be Yowie, Aleuchatistas and Upsilon Acrux; tickets to that show are $6 in advance and $8 at the door. Advance tickets to both shows are available for $12. For more information, call 314-771-1096 or go to lemp-arts.org.
