Bond on stimulus package
WASHINGTON — Sen. “Christopher “Kit” Bond says the Senate’s action Thursday on the economic stimulus notion shows that Congress can get things done, despite the criticism that there’s too much partisan bickering.
“Today’s bipartisan action proves to the American people that Republicans and Democrats can work together and find solutions to tough problems,” Bond said. “The Senate took a good bipartisan bill from the House and made it better — we extend benefits to roughly 20 million seniors, 250,000 disabled veterans and their spouses, but not illegal aliens.”
The congressional action is necessary, the Missouri Republican says, because “there is a lot of uncertainty in the economy, and American families are worried about their jobs, mortgages, health care, and paying higher energy and education costs.”
Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Cal., agrees with most of that, but laments that the measure doesn’t include extended unemployment benefits or energy efficiency tax incentives.

The stimuliscious package is nothing more than an election year, vote buying scam. If politicians were serious about the economy, they’d sit back and let the mortgage “crisis” work itself out on it’s own. History shows that when the government fiddles with things in an effort to stave off an economic downturn, it inevitabely makes it worse. If Washington keeps it’s nose out of this one, this could very likely be one of the shortest and weakest recessions ever.
