Oops — with apologies from TV
WASHINGTON — Missouri went to Hillary Clinton. And that was a big blow to Barack Obama, who needed a boost from the nation’s ultimate bellwether state, one that is almost always right in choosing a national winner and, more importantly, embodies so much about the nation — rural and urban, black and white, a state with traits of the east and west, north and south.
Except, of course, that Obama won the Show-me state. But you wouldn’t have known that if you’d received your news late Tuesday night from television, which called the state for Clinton. It’s tough, having to fill the air with constant predictions and calls on winners and losers. Sometimes, actually often, the reliabilitiy of newspapers and their cautious judgment offers a far more trustworthy source of news than the electronic outlets.
