McCain and appeal to workers
WASHINGTON — What looked for months like a Democratic presidential year may be more up for grabs than realized, partly because of John McCain’s potential appeal to blue-collar voters in swing states like Ohio, Pennsylvania, Missouri and elsewhere.
True, McCain is getting whacked by labor for costing Boeing the tanker contract and helping send the jobs overseas. But the Republicans are about to nominate the only Republican — other than perhaps Mike Huckabee — who could draw some of the so-called Reagan Democrats/NASCAR Dads/blue-collar conservatives who can swing a state like Ohio. Huckabee would have done it on values, while McCain can do it on patriotism.
Hillary Clinton has a strong appeal to working class voters, but the Democratic leader in delegates, Barack Obama, has shown less strength among this group. Voters torn in the past couple of election between their so-called economic interests and their values just might find themselves juxtaposing their pocketbooks and their patriotism this time around — and any sizeable defection toward the GOP in just a couple of battleground states could spell disaster for the Dems in November.

I have full confidence that McCain will win in November although he will be greatly outspent by the rich white-guilt Democrats. Currently in Missouri and around the country McCain is leading both Hillary and Obama but the MSM doesn’t want to report it because they know that will help McCain’s financing. Currently being reported by http://www.rasmussenreports.com:
General Election, John McCain leading Barack Obama 47% to 41%. He leads Hillary Clinton 48% to 41% (see recent daily results). And the spread is even greater in Missouri - a bellweather state.
Values means not being a bigot. McCain has activiely sought and obtained the endorsement of Rev. Heege, knowing Heege has called the Roman Catholic Church the “Whore of Babylon,” a “cult,” and the “anti-christ!” John McCain has actively sought out the support of a man which the conservative Catholic League calls a “bigot.”
Any Catholic voter in Missouri, Pennsylvania or Ohio has to be amazed that such intolerance, once opposed by McCain when he didn’t have or want the support of the far religious right, can be sought out for support by a man who had in 2000 called such “apostles of intolerance.” I guess when 60-70% of GOP primary voters are against you, values don’t count for John McCain.
I pray Catholic voters, and Archbishop Burke, don’t support anti-Catholic bigotry by voting for John McCain.
Well Hogan, what do have to say about a president that supports anti-white bigotry?
Timbo, you have one heck of a nerve calling McCain a bigot. I would not even go so far as to call Obama a bigot, though it is a much more reasonable accusation in his case, considering he spent 20 years in a church led by a flaming racist pastor. And gave the church $22,500 in 2006.
If you had the least bit of knowledge about Christian theology, you’d understand that most denominations, with the exception of a few very liberal protestant ones, have a strong preference that people belong to their particular brand of Christianity. Indeed, an honest Southern Baptist would say that it is impossible for a Catholic who truly believes the doctrines of his church to be saved. Liberal Presbyterians wouldn’t say it, but any of the several conservative Presbyterian denominations would.
Gee Nick, what do you call a candidate that actively seeks support of a man and is completely aware of that person’s beliefs that Catholics belong to a “cult,” their church is the “Whore of Babylon,” and that it is the “anti-christ?” Those are the nicer things Rev. Heege has said about the Catholic Church, he reserves his special vileness for the Pope. Just Google it, don’t take my word for it! My guess is you all already have checked the facts and cannot refute the truth as reported here.
The conservative Catholic League calls Rev. Heege a “bigot.” I say any person who chooses to seek a bigot’s support is a bigot himself. McCain is an anti-Catholic bigot.
If you read the St. Louis Review, it’s editorial page this week warns against religious intolerance being on the rise in America—-exactly what McCain is doing. I hope Catholics, as well as Archbishop Burke, condemn this bigotry and intolerance in the strongest way and do not support McCain.
We need McCain AND Huckabee together as a formidable team to unify and excite the Republican Party and get us to the polls in November for a win!!! John McCain, if you are listening, conservatives are speaking loud and clear and they are saying WE LIKE MIKE!! We hope you do too!!!! McCain/Huckabee’08 for a WIN!!!!!
Hogan - you are killing me with laughter. Let’s see, I wonder if you were one of those people that were upset with Arch B when he wouldn’t give Kerry communion because he was pro-choice. I hope you are presently not taking communion. You are such a hypocrite it is actually funny. Keep going though - I’m really enjoying this. Gosh, who knows, your new bud Arch B and you will probably be lunching next week.
Funny how you have absolutely no problem whatsoever with the religious bigotry of Black Liberation Theology which is actually Obama’s religion. Probably because it is rooted in Marxism and you are probably a Marxist like Obama.
I make no excuses for anyone’s bigotry, unlike you CENTWISTED. I have posted that Obama did not actively seek and get the endorsement of Rev. Wright, his retired pastor. Even Gov. Huckabee says your facist corporatist right wing neocon Brown Shirt weblog echochambering yobbo yapping bloviation about Rev. Wright is over the top!
My upset is with the lying GOP which says it’s pro-life and seeks the votes and financial support of good people of faith, and then does nothing to secure the sanctity of all human life. What we get is the snap vote against gays getting married (bigotry!), and nothing on any anti-abortion amendment. Then we get W executing children, the mentally ill and retarded, and defending such before the US Supreme Court (where he lost!). And, we get Iraq, cruel cuts in Medicaid and Medicare to deprive the unborn and infants of healthcare, cruel cuts in food and nutrition programs for the unborn and infants and toddlers, anti-immigrant bigotry, anti-union bigotry, and general war upon the middle class in America by giving the store away to the already too rich, drug companies, insurance companies, and Big Oil!
Much as Raymond of the Albigensians “asserted the co-existence of two mutually opposed principles the one good and the other evil,” Archbishop Burke has done likewise with any group of cells he claims is unborn life to the denigration of and disregard for the integrity of the Catholic Church’s teaching on the sanctity of all human life. Archbishop Burke would not call the GOP to account for its blatant hypocrisy and lies and hold them accountable while giving the GOP aid, comfort and his political support which apparently violated our nation’s laws and the laws of the Church. Picking and choosing among the Church’s teachings on the sanctity of all human life and tossing the rest into a latter day Savaronola bonfire is unforgivable as it is widely reported that Archbishop Burke is an expert on theology and canon law.
As for me, I receive the Eucharist in keeping with Catholic teaching. My sins are between me and my confessor, and none of your business.
Again, you do not address the post but, attack me. Too bad you can’t deal with reality. Better get new meds. eh?
Interview with Hagee and the “Whore of Babylon”
I told him that when I Googled “Great Whore” and Revelation, the first six hits were explicitly anti-Catholic Web sites. He then explained why, in his interpretation of the Book of Revelation, the “Great Whore” cannot refer to the Catholic Church: In Hagee’s eschatology, the end times begin with the Rapture, when all those who are truly in Christ will be taken up to heaven. Hagee says, “Since both Catholics and Protestants are taken up to Heaven, how could the ‘Great Whore’ be the Catholic Church? The apostate church is left on earth during the seven years of tribulation — that is the ‘Great Whore.’”
I asked him, “Are you saying the Catholic Church cannot be the ‘Great Whore’ because the ‘Great Whore’ exists only during the period of tribulation?” Hagee answered, “Yes, anyone who is a real Christian, Catholic or Protestant, has been taken to heaven, only those without faith, including Catholics and Protestants, are left behind.”
the rest of the interview can be found here: http://www.catholic.org/national/national_story.php?id=27394&cb300=vocations
Be sure to read how Hagee obtained the Cornerstone Church buildings and property, and the way he treated the Catholic nuns who were the previous caretakers.
