Web Watch: Adding it up

We’re in the home stretch of the Pennsylvania campaigns for both Sens. Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, and Obama just fired back in today’s ongoing ad war

We’ve already seen a good bit of press today on Clinton’s latest ad. It plays a montage of cultural and political touchstones for just about every generation — all focused on historical tough times — and then asks the rhetorical question: “Who do you think has what it takes?”

Now Obama’s people are trying to answer that question. Their fresh from the editing room, ad makes that clear with the title: “He has what it takes.” The clip reprises themes of change, hits on Obama’s war stance, and then makes a thinly veiled reference to Clinton’s tactics as using “fear and calculation to divide us.”

Both ads are posted below. Sound off. What do you think?

The brand-new Obama ad:

The earlier spot from Clinton:

[…] Today’s biggest political buzz online — though nothing is yet exactly blowing up — is the ad-counter-ad between the two. I’ve posted more about that over at DC Download. […]

Gee, Adam, can’t believe you missed this little goodie which we will never see reported by the PD:

CENTRIST,

Thanks for the link. I had not seen that.

For everyone else, the background: Lawrence Lessig, a law professor (at Stanford), gave a speech in October 2006 at Google’s New York offices. He spent an hour or so with his presentation that began as a primer on new media trends, digital remixing, the rewrite culture and how the Internet is being used.

It’s not really a secret that Lessig has a liberal’s stance on technology policy, such as net neutrality and digital copyright. Lessig has also endorsed Obama and Obama’s own tech proposals.

What is causing consternation in the conservative blogosphere is that Lessig’s presentation includes the one-minute short by filmmaker Javier Prato, called Jesus Christ: The Musical. Lessig laughs at the clip and says he doesn’t see the controversy. Clearly, some Christians have found the clip offensive and degrading. Prato himself has said the clip is comic and represents irony.

So the question(s) then: Is Prato’s short film blasphemous and degrading or is it a form of social and comedic commentary? Too, is there a connection between Lessig and Obama? Does that hurt Obama?

Anyone who wants to see the whole presentation and context can visit http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9xbRE_H5hoU (the part in question begins about 12 minutes in).

Again, thanks to CENTRIST for bringing this to my attention. We’re a bit off topic here, but thoughts, anyone?

Adam & Centrist -
An Obama supporter makes a video that Obama knew nothing about, showed it at a meeting that Obama was not at, and you are wondering if this can be manufactured to hurt Obama?

Let’s bring back Kenneth Starr’s presentations around White Water and the Rose Law Firm, since Hillary was actually there and had knowledge of what waas going on. Oh, that would be “unfair”?

Or, let’s reconfigure John McCain’s imprisonment in North Vietnamese preison camps as a long term association with known communists who were hostile to the USA, ergo he must also be a communist.

No, none of these are fair, typical but not fair or truthful.

Adam & Centrist -
Now having watched this presentation up through and past the video mentioned above, where did it state in the course of the presentation that Lessig created it? No where.

Also, he was illustrating the point that the tools used to create this video (and another half dozen that you forgot to mention) are available to anyone to create just about anything they want and post it to the web. And, Lessig had the common sense that it may offend certain people. Again, he did not create it, nor did he use it for anything other than one of several illustrations in the course of his lecture.

Or someone can take the Bush-Blair video in the same presentation, and simply put in McCain in place of Blair and make a similar point.

So, while this might be an “interesting” side-light, it is not germane nor does it have anything at all to do with Obama. In reality, Lessig’s presentation has more to do with Google stockholders laughing at everyone of the videos he presented, than it does with anything else.

Try again, your broad brush is colored with your blind prejudice.

MY FELLOW “BITTER”, STUPID, WORKING CLASS PEOPLE :-)

If you think like Barack Obama, that WORKING CLASS PEOPLE are just a bunch of “BITTER”!, STUPID, PEASANTS, Cash COWS!, and CANNON FODDER. :-(

You Might Be An Idiot! :-)

If you think Barack Obama with little or no experience would be better than Hillary Clinton with 35 years experience.

You Might Be An Idiot! :-)

If you think that Obama with no experience can fix an economy on the verge of collapse better than Hillary Clinton. Whose ;-) husband (Bill Clinton) led the greatest economic expansion, and prosperity in American history.

You Might Be An Idiot! :-)

If you think that Obama with no experience fighting for universal health care can get it for you better than Hillary Clinton. Who anticipated this current health care crisis back in 1993, and fought a pitched battle against overwhelming odds to get universal health care for all the American people.

You Might Be An Idiot! :-)

If you think that Obama with no experience can manage, and get us out of two wars better than Hillary Clinton. Whose ;-) husband (Bill Clinton) went to war only when he was convinced that he absolutely had to. Then completed the mission in record time against a nuclear power. AND DID NOT LOSE THE LIFE OF A SINGLE AMERICAN SOLDIER. NOT ONE!

You Might Be An Idiot! :-)

If you think that Obama with no experience saving the environment is better than Hillary Clinton. Whose ;-) husband (Bill Clinton) left office with the greatest amount of environmental cleanup, and protections in American history.

You Might Be An Idiot! :-)

If you think that Obama with little or no education experience is better than Hillary Clinton. Whose ;-) husband (Bill Clinton) made higher education affordable for every American. And created higher job demand and starting salary’s than they had ever been before or since.

You Might Be An Idiot! :-)

If you think that Obama with no experience will be better than Hillary Clinton who spent 8 years at the right hand of President Bill Clinton. Who is already on record as one of the greatest Presidents in American history.

You Might Be An Idiot! :-)

If you think that you can change the way Washington works with pretty speeches from Obama, rather than with the experience, and political expertise of two master politicians ON YOUR SIDE like Hillary and Bill Clinton..

You Might Be An Idiot! :-)

If you think all those Republicans voting for Obama in the Democratic primaries, and caucuses are doing so because they think he is a stronger Democratic candidate than Hillary Clinton. :-)

Best regards

jacksmith… Working Class :-)

p.s. You Might Be An Idiot! :-)

If you don’t know that the huge amounts of money funding the Obama campaign to try and defeat Hillary Clinton is coming in from the insurance, and medical industry, that has been ripping you off, and killing you and your children. And denying you, and your loved ones the life saving medical care you needed. All just so they can make more huge immoral profits for them-selves off of your suffering…

You see, back in 1993 Hillary Clinton had the audacity, and nerve to try and get quality, affordable universal health care for everyone to prevent the suffering and needless deaths of hundreds of thousands of you each year. :-)

Approx. 100,000 of you die each year from medical accidents from a rush to profit by the insurance, and medical industry. Another 120,000 of you die each year from treatable illness that people in other developed countries don’t die from. And I could go on, and on…

Centrist & JackSmith
1. Lessig may be on Obama’s staff, however, that does not change one iota of the facts I mentioned in regard to the presentation.

2. jacksmith - get new material. How about: “You might be an idiot when you repeat the same old jokes.” (Especially when they were not funny in the first place.)

A CENTRIST,

Do you really truly believe that Christ think any better of a idolatry than that Jesus mocker?

You do realize that when one worships a God that they have made up in their mind their own ideas of who God/Jesus is and what is required to be considered a follower of Christ (A Christian), that is idolatry, don’t you?

Christians learn from scripture that God condemns this as one of the most serious offenses against Him.

The point is that such a person is no better off than that person parading down the street mocking and blaspheming Jesus.

Also, are we at the point in our society that one is expected to be a Christian for employment in America? I must admit, I think it would be idea if all were believers, but shouldn’t we except the fact as God has disclosed, that this will never be the case here on this present earth and just do as Christ instructed those who have decided to commit our lives to Him and follow Him? You do know He instructed Christians to do, don’t you A CENTRIST?
