Emanuel to replace Obama?
WASHINGTON–Forget the veep stakes. The latest buzz consuming those in the U.S. Capitol, well at least some Illinois lawmakers, is who might take Barack Obama’s seat in the U.S. Senate if he wins the presidency.
Okay, the general election is still five months off and Obama. D-Ill., faces a tough race against GOP presidential nominee Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz.
But for ever-ambitious politicians and media pundits, it’s never too early to start spinning and speculating. So conservative columnist Robert Novak threw out the name of Rep. Rahm Emanuel, D-Ill., in Sunday’s Chicago Sun-Times. The piece also included a denial from Emanuel, the House Democratic Caucus Chairman who is well-known as a hard-edged, foul-mouthed Chicago pol.
