Farm Bill back for round two

WASHINGTON_The U.S. Senate voted again today on the Farm Bill, passing it with overwhelming support, 77-15.

A clerical error omitted the trade title in the version sent to President Bush’s desk last month.

Bush vetoed the law, but both the House and Senate passed an override, despite knowing the bill was incomplete and would have to be passed again.

“Of course, in a perfect world today’s vote wouldn’t be necessary but we have come too far in writing the 2008 Farm Bill to turn back now,” National Farmer’s Union President Tom Buis said in a statement. “I urge the president to consider the bill’s strong support in Congress and re-think his veto.”
