Governator: Politicians “blowing smoke” on drilling

WASHINGTON _ On the flip-flop meter, John McCain’s recent embrace of off-shore oil exploration after opposing it over the years didn’t register quite as strong as Barack Obama renouncing public financing of his campaign.

But some folks noticed.  A fellow Republican, California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, may have been one of them.

Ah-nold, who has a whole lotta coastline west of Sacramento, had this to say in Miami this afternoon, according to the St. Petersburg Times.

“Politicians have been throwing around all kinds of ideas in response to the skyrocketing energy prices, from the rethinking of nuclear power to pushing biofuels and more renewables and ending the ban on offshore drilling, it goes on and on the list. But, anyone who tells you this will lower our gas prices anytime soon is blowing smoke.”

“If everyone in the country took the simple step of making sure they had correct air pressure in their tires, their gasoline costs would go down 4 percent. America’s oil consumption would drop by 800,000 barrels a day. That is twice the amount some experts have said we would get if we pumped all of our known offshore reserves.”

Schwarzenegger spokesman Aaron McClear phoned moments ago to assert that his boss wasn’t aiming at McCain, or at Florida Gov. Charlie Crist, who also has changed his position on drilling.

The California governor was referring to politicians who say that offshore drilling could lower gas prices — and McCain hasn’t said that’s why he changed positions, McClear noted.

Finally, a Republican being truthful about this false hope that certain Republicans are giving so many.

It only takes a little common sense to figure the truth out that Republican Gov. Schwarzenegger is telling.

But, what such drilling exploration would do is make some people connected in oil exploration business a lot richer. Why do so many people fall for these same con games over and over by this same group of Republican con artists?

Abortion then, now off shore drilling. Wake-up people.

Y’know Mr. Lambrecht, you are shilling for the GOP when you say Obama is “flip-flopping” on public financing.

What Mr. Obama had said is that he would accept public financing if his GOP opponent also did.

McCain opted out for the primaries and was an early washout as he blew his money stupidly. Later, McCain said he’s taking public funding, and used the promised public funds for a loan to his failed campaign. THEN, McCain “opted out” AGAIN and over the protests of rivals and the Democratic Party (and any person of good will and conscience in America)has proceeded to use OUR money as security for loans to HIS campaign when he says he’s NOT opting into public financing. So, in the face of obvious illegality (which you and your shill-for-the-GOP-and-McCain paper have failed to cover!) Obama says he opts out of public financing in the general election.

If I use false statements to secure loans, I go to federal prison for bank fraud like some of our East Side friends. If John McCain does it, you attack his opponent. Are you buddies with Karl Rove, or what?

Mr. Obama has broken no promises. You need to get your facts straight or go back to J-school. Stop printing lies as though true.

It seems to me as though as long as politics are involved some people would rather do without in the name of saving face. I remember when Al Gore and George Bush were running for president that some of my friends who were liberals very upset that Bush won. When he lowered our taxes they were still upset. My recommdation was send 10% of your money to the govenment if that makes you feel better. If course none would even think of doing that. Wait until the next democrat gets into office and see how happy they will be to send 10-15% of there money to the IRS. They will some how figure a way to blame it on republicans.
More than 30 years ago this country wanted to become energy sufficient. After the oil embargo and things settled down everyone seemed to forget. If our leaders at that time had acted, we would not be in the mess we are in now. One can blame it on both parties!
We now have more countries demanding oil for their economies. China and India are both rising very quickly and are syphoning off oil, which was historically earmarked for the U.S. markets. The Chinese are adding more than 15,000 cars a month to the streets of Beijing. Many other Chinese cities are following suit. What use to be walking, bicycles, motor scooters and public transportation is now turning into the love of the automobile. It is very similar to what the U.S. saw after the second world war.
The metals market is also an area that politicians NEVER mention. Does anyone know how many pounds of iron, steel and aluminum goes into making a car? Undoubtedly not! We never hear any of our leaders talk about what has happened to the metals markets since 2002. Of course our liberal friends would blame it on the republican administation. It is all about supply and demand. Here again, China had an abundance of raw materials and since they weren’t making many cars they could sell off their excess without hurting their own iron casting businesses. Today China has reduced the sell of all iron, steel and aluminum raw materials. They are even importing some basic raw materials to help conserve their own. Who is to blame for our sharp rise in raw materials? Is it the democrates or republicans. IT IS THE LAW OF SUPPLY AND DEMAND! Same with oil. Some leading liberals in this counrty had better wake up and smell the roses. If not, our great country will look like the Chinese country side were most forms of transportation is either by foot, bicycle, motor bike, donkey cart or crowded public buses. If anyone thinks this is a joke, it is not. I have been living in China for 8 years and see this every day.
It is time to make the U.S. energy sufficient today. Waiting till tomorrow will never come! I am seriously looking at buying stock in a major bicycle company, because I know if gas prices get much higher then there will be people looking at alternative ways of getting to work, just like in China.

Gov. Schwarzenegger is blowing smoke. What he doesn’t say is that building wind farms and solar farms or whatever technology he chooses won’t immediately bring down fuel prices. If the Liberals and extremest environmentalists weren’t allowed to shut down all new oil exploration and nuclear power plants between 10 and 20 years ago we would be more self sufficient now. The politicians on both sides are afraid to tackle the problem head on and lead the charge for a balanced reasonable plan using old and new technologies to solve the oil problem. This would include using oil, coal, and nuclear power. Where’s the courage to fight against the odds that our country was built on?

Coming from California I can safely say the following are true because I have seen them:
1. The wind farms have been around in certain areas of California for at least 20 - 25 years. This is old news.
2. The air pressure fact is also true, just ask your garage. I remember it was an article of good car maintenance practiced by my Dad to check the air pressure about once a week. Of course that was also in the days of “free air” at gas stations.

The question we need to be asking of those politicians who have suddenly changed their positions on off-shore drilling, is which oil lobbyist is contributing to your campaign and how much?

I just like the idea that “environmentalists” are laughing maniacally at the thought of energy prices being kept up so people can suffer - because isn’t that what liberalism is all about? Making poor people suffer?

I think when Ah-nold stops flying from LA to Sacramento to go to work EVERY SINGLE DAY, then and only then can he can me about reducing gas prices. It’s those people in the world who think they are above the “rest of us” whoare the problem. Arnold and the rest of the liberals/cowards in the country need to live as they ask everyone else. Arnold needs to move to Sacramento and only come home on the weekends and HE needs to foot the bill for that.

If we drill today for oil and start production, in 5 years gas prices will start to come down. We can live on the oil we haev in this country for at least another 200 years (ONLY US OIL CONSUMED) and in the mean time, we can look for the 100 mile per gallon car.

Senator McCain: When the world has this “100 mile per gallon car” what makes you think that OPEC would not drop production to accommodate this? If their profits are important (the oil companies have paid 3 times in taxes as they have made in profit) what makes you think that $20-$30 per gallon gas would be uncommon? If you really want to help the little guy; it’s clear the Democrats don’t, then do something that has a chance of actually helping. Drill here, drill now and save us money in the future and THEN get the alternative fuels automobiles on the market.
