Nader: Obama tries to “talk white,” tap “white guilt”

WASHINGTON _ Ralph Nader certainly isn’t making any friends in the Democratic Party these days.

And he doesn’t have a whole lot of  Democratic friends to begin with, considering that many in the party still blame him for Al Gore’s razor-thin loss in 2000.

Now the great consumerist is not only running for president again, he’s making remarks sure to aggravate Democrats, like those in an interview with the Rocky Mountain News that appeared today. For instance:

“There’s only one thing different about Barack Obama when it comes to being a Democratic presidential candidate. He’s half African-American,” Nader said. “Whether that will make any difference, I don’t know. I haven’t heard him have a strong crackdown on economic exploitation in the ghettos. Payday loans, predatory lending, asbestos, lead. What’s keeping him from doing that? Is it because he wants to talk white? He doesn’t want to appear like Jesse Jackson? We’ll see all that play out in the next few months and if he gets elected afterwards.”

Asked if he really thinks Obama tries to “talk white,” Nader said: “Of course. I mean, first of all, the number one thing that a black American politician aspiring to the presidency should do is to candidly describe the plight of the poor, especially in the inner cities and the rural areas, and have a very detailed platform about how the poor are going to be defended by the law, are going to be protected by the law, and are going to be liberated by the law.”

An Obama spokeswoman said that her campaign was “obviously disappointed at these backwards-looking remarks.”

Did Nader make any valid points here? Are folks being too political correct? Does he still have a role to play in American politics?

Tell us what you think – and join me this morning for a discussion on presidential politics at 11 o’clock.

Raph Nader is becoming more and more pathetic with the passing of time. He even allowed what started out as a good thing, “Consumer Reports” to become tainted and corrupt and worthless. He is a bought man, and has no creditbility.

Worst yet, now he has allowed himself to become so corrupted that he appears crazy and pathetically ignorant and stupid. To accuse any person raised by a White family of trying to be White is the lowest form of stupidity.

He is so obviously out of his mind in ALL his assumptions and assertions here. Or is it that he is so racist that he is mentally disturbed at the prospect of Obama becoming President. Must be a very sad time in this country for the racists.

So Ralph “One Note” Nader is disappointed that Senator Obama is not speaking out on Nader’s favorite issues. Perhaps he will make the same complaint about Senator McCain and Bob Barr as well.

To say that Senator Obama “talks white” is stupid on Nader’s part. Senator Obama was reared by his Mother and Grandmother. He is well educated. Perhaps it can be said of Nader that he speaks well for and Arab-American. Dumb, dumb, dumb.

If we do have a knight in shining armour in politics, it is Ralph Nader. This is the only one who is for the common man, the only one to stand up to the criminal corporations who are moving American jobs to foreign countries.

“Must be a very sad time in this country for the racists.”

Some of Billary II supporters are supporting Obamessiah, some arent. Moss, Wright and Phleger all still preach their racsim from the pulpit, so while some democrats (racists) are very sad right now, other racists (democrats) are very happy.

“Shining knight”?? Ralph Nader??? There is no more ego-centric, self-absorbed person in “politics”, except VP Cheney.

What is wrong with saying Obamessiah “talks white”? He is, after all, 50% white (I wont bother to point out that his remaining ethnicity is 43% Arab and 7% African)

The Republicans are so racist that their only African American member of Congress, J.C. Watts, quit Congress and the party. McCain voted against a Martin Luther King holiday, and seeks out, gets and rejoices in the endorsements of religious bigots like John Hagee and Ron Parsley.

It’s great that America has free speech. But, free speech doesn’t mean speach which makes any sense. Nader has gone over to the dark side and only seeks to ensure the election of Bush/McCain with his snarky, fruitless efforts. Maybe Nader and Dick Cheney and Karl Rove could get together and plan all their efforts to give us four more years of Bush/McCain!

SVPPB -
“What is wrong with saying Obamessiah “talks white”? ”

Absolutely nothing if it is alright also say: “George Bush talks pretty good for a Waco hick”; or, “Dick Cheney certainly does an excellent impression of Burgess Meredith doing the Penguin”; or, “Rush Limbaugh sounds almost intelligent for being from downstate Missouri”; or, “Kit Bond doesn’t slur his words as badly as he used to”….need I go on?

The problem with the whole “talks white” expression is that throughout American history some of the more articulate and expressive persons were of African descent. Start with Phyllis Wheatley and Frederick Douglass and move forward. This is a perjorative phrase applied solely to blacks, oftentimes as a term of derision within the black community to put down those who are actively seeking to be educated.

When whites and yo-yos like Ralph Nader pick this up, it becomes more of the same old putting down of anyone who can express themselves with passion, clarity and focus.

Yours for better vocabulary skills.

Does Nader mean inflection or subject matter? In either case he has built his campaign on moving past this nonsense. Vote O
