Okie Rep.’s tune: Obama too liberal for me

WASHINGTON _ Rep. Dan Boren, a Democrat in a state where there aren’t many, comes from the part of Oklahoma where Merle Haggard sang that song, Okie from Muskogee.

His father, David Boren, a former governor, U.S. senator and now president of the University of Oklahoma, endorsed Barack Obama a while back.

But Dan Boren is singing his own tune, which goes something like: Obama, You’re Too Liberal For Me.

Boren said Tuesday that he had no intention of endorsing Obama, even though he would vote casting his delegate vote for Obama at the Democratic convention in August and support the Illinoisan for president in November.

John McCain made sure folks knew about Boren’s sentiments, distributing a wire story in which Boren was quoted as calling Obama “the most liberal senator.”

“We’re much more conservative,” Boren told AP. “I’ve got to reflect my district.”

Nonetheless, Boren used the word “celebrate” to describe his feelings about his nominating an African American. “It’s a testament to the Democratic Party,” he said.

Boren, 35, a professional politician following in the footsteps of his father (and grandfather), is said to be angling to run for governor. His record on many issues seems not only different from Obama’s but out of step with the Democratic Party.

He’s on the board of the National Rifle Association, voted against repealing tax cuts for wealthy Americans and is one of few Democrats to have made the League of Conservation’s Dirty Dozen list after voting against every major piece of environmental legislation in 2006.

Is this fellow in the wrong party, or what?

Oh, and if you want to talk politics, join me on Wednesdays at 11 am here for a weekly political chat.

Dan Boren is a right-wing “Democrat,” just like his father David and his grandfather Lyle, who was a U.S. Congressman in the late 30s and 40s. Lyle Boren opposed letting black people attend the University of Oklahoma, hated labor unions, and inserted a vicious tirade in the Congressional Record and slandered John Steinbeck and his famous novel, The Grapes of Wrath. David Boren, a Skull and Bones member, is a good friend of the Bush family and a sponsor of both George Tenet and Bob Gates. As a favor to Bush, when he was still a U.S. Senator and chairman of the Intelligence Committee, David Boren rushed through the confirmation of Gates as CIA director and later sponsored the discredited Tenet on his path to that job. I suspect that David Boren endorsed Obama for the nomination as a favor to McCain, because he figured that Obama would be easier for McCain to beat in November that Clinton. Young Dan Boren’s announcement and willingness to cooperate with McCain is right in line with that prediction.

Dan Borden is a destructive snake among his own Party. He should not be part of the Democratic Party, but an Independent or a Republican and should run for office as such.

Very much an intentional Party destructive move. Just plain stupid.

Under the circumstances another Democrat should and deserve to unseat this man. It is the only good and smart move the Democratic Party could make. It is time for Rep. Dan Boren to be forced to give up his seat one way or another, just plain foolish to have a known destructive snakes among your Party.

Much like what Koster is here in Missouri perpetrating himself as a Democrat, so pathetic it is.

Wow D-, I thought democrats were for “diversity”, I guess that doesnt apply when someone strays off the Obamessiah reservation. You can bet your bottom dollar (or the governments bottom dollar in your case) that if more dems ran on the liberal policies of Obamessiah, Kennedy, Pelosi and the lot, they would never get elected. The only way they are winning is by running as conservative lights.

And Bill, way to let your bias shine through loud and clear. Tax cuts for the rich? I assume by ‘rich’ you mean Americans with jobs because if you are working, you are paying less in taxes now than you were before. Tax revenues are at all time highs, so that “tax cut for the rich” seems to have brought more money to waste in the government coffers.

Wow, we have a couple of bitter comments here tonight. Rep. Boren doesn’t owe Barack Obama a single thing. In this nation, we have the freedom to endorse or vote for whomever we please, regardless of party in a general election. To think you have the nerve to tell someone to “fall into line” is absurd. These kinds of lame tactics will only hurt Obama.

As a moderate Democrat, Rep. Boren is speaking to something that millions of Democrats nationwide agree with. Barack Obama’s political ideology could easily be labeled as radical. He doesn’t challenge the ideological base of the Democratic Party on not one issue, despite his attempts to claim otherwise. He’s highly vulnerable in a general election.

Many Democrats actually like John McCain’s style and record of bipartisan cooperation (for which he’s been viciously attacked by the radical reactionaries of his own party) and are definitely considering voting for him, despite a number of differences. I’ve decided to cast my ballot for John McCain, the first time I will vote for an (R) for President. You Obamabots make the decision a lot easier.

Debbie and Si,

The comments are not bitter. This man should be shame of himself for behaving as he is. Unlike citizens who are Hillary supporters this man hold a political office within the Democratic party. Totally different and such a position carries a certain amount of loyality within ethical guidelines.

If one is part of a Party, Party loyalty trumps in all matters except those that are harmful, such as those within the Bush administration who kept their mouths closed knowing that invading Iraq was based upon lies.

This is why I am an Independent because I refuse to give any Party this type of loyality.

Otherwise, if one cannot support their Party’s decision over something as minor as their Party’s choosen Presidential nominee, then that person is not worthy to be part of any Party if they are capable of displaying such child like ignorant behavior, especially for someone who is suppose to be a man. I certainly would not want them in my Party regardless of if I were Democrat or Republican.

Due that Hillary Clinton’s and Obama’s stand on issues were not that far apart shows that Rep. Dan Boren is bothered by something other than what he is claiming to be because Obama is too liberal. What a bunch of crock.

Another politician behaving like a spoiled child and not as a man is Ohio’s Gov. Ted Strickland. He too deserves a kick in the rear out of the Democratic Party.

All should open their eyes wide and see that the mask have come off many of the true red Republicans deceiving people that they are blue Democrats. I certainly hope that the Democrats in Missouri do not fall for Koster.

I agree with D-, moderate democrats should be booted from the party this primary season. Only dems who will carry water for Obamessiah should be allowed in the party, the farther left the better for party purity. They shouldnt run as moderates, they should run as far left lunatic piles of moonbat guano.

D-, three more members of congress wont endorse Obamessiah, so put them on your list of the Impure who need to be drummed out of the party.
Rep. Travis Childers (D-MS), Rep. Heath Shuler (D-NC), and Rep. Jim Marshall (D-GA).

Yeah, the GOP is so committed to diversity that JC Watts, the only African-American GOP member of Congress, quit because of the GOP racism.
