A Club for Onder

WASHINGTON—State Rep. Bob Onder got a boost today from the conservative Club for Growth PAC, which endorsed him in the GOP primary to replace Rep. Kenny Hulshof, R-Columbia.

The Club for Growth has waded into numerous House and Senate races across the country in favor of staunch conservatives—and often skewering Republican moderates in the process.

The 9th District race is a 10-candidate contest with five Republicans, four Democrats and one Libertarian vying to replace Hulshof, who is running for governor.

No word yet on whether the club’s endorsement will translate into money spent on his behalf, but the group has often launched stinging ads in congressional contests.

In it’s news release today, the Club said Onder “stands out as an economic conservative in a crowded Republican field” and took aim at one of his opponents, ex-state Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer.

“A lot of candidates like to claim they are economic conservatives, but it is clear that Bob Onder is the real deal,” Club for Growth President Pat Toomey said in the statement, which noted that he backed income tax cuts, school choice, and tort reform in the state legislature.

Dr. Onder is indeed the real deal. Aside from being the most accomplished and intelligent person running, he is also a true conservative. Missouri would be fortunate to have a congressman of Onder’s caliber, who will truly bring honor to our state far beyond our borders.

What was it again that Onder accomplished this past session? In a do little legislative session, Onder did just that……little.

“We are shocked that the Club for Growth has been hoodwinked by Bob Onder and his ethically-challenged consultant Rod Jetton, when it is clear that Blaine Luetkemeyer is the true fiscal conservative in this race. Blaine was the first candidate to sign a no new tax pledge, he supports a balanced budget amendment and has been the leader on earmark reform. Onder, meanwhile, has supported $1.8 billion in new spending including $12,000 for promoting apples and $750,000 in cab fare for students in St. Louis even as paid consultant Jetton was helping fast-track Onder’s legislation for political purposes. Bob Onder’s frivolous spending of taxpayer dollars and his backroom deals with Rod Jetton smack of the kind of Washington-style antics that the people of the 9th Congressional District are sick of, which is why they will continue to embrace Blaine’s fiscally conservative approach to government.”
