A McCain birthday veep bash?
WASHINGTON _ That’s what the political junkie tabloid Politico is saying this morning, that John McCain will announce his running mate on Aug. 29, the day after Barack Obama delivers his acceptance speech in Denver and also McCain’s 72nd birthday.
The source report says that McCain will make his choice known at a 10,000-strong gathering in Ohio on the heels of Obama’s Thursday night speech to 70,000-plus in Denver’s Invesco Field at Mile High.
If true, McCain could be accomplishing two goals – trimming Obama’s likely bounce from a week of orchestration and planting a big red flag in Ohio, which could be critical to Republican hopes if Obama is able to pick off a typical red state or two like Virginia or Colorado.
Who will McCain choose? Most of the short-short lists have on them former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty – and sometimes former Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge, an abortion rights advocate who might trigger heartburn among social conservatives.
Right-leaning GOPUSA.com ran a headline this morning with this none-too discreet headline: “Pro-choice McCain Veep Equals Political Suicide.”
Nonetheless, it’s noteworthy that McCain intends to campaign in Pennsylvania shortly after Ohio, according to Politico.

So, BushMcCain’s campaign manager took 20,000 jobs out of Ohio and now McCain wants Ohioans to vote for him?
I heard McCain will have Dick Cheney head a committee to select his VP. I wonder who Cheney will Pick????
Whoever the GOP slog forward with will have to be as beholden to Big Oil as McCain who has taken over $2,000,000.00 from Big Oil.
