Obama and GOP play hardball
WASHINGTON - A mere two days after winning the presidency Barack Obama is already facing fastballs thrown high and tight by Republicans.
The party’s leaders are critical of the announcement today that Illinois Congressman Rahm Emanuel will serve as the White House chief of staff in President-elect Obama’s administration.
“Barack Obama’s first decision as President-elect undermines his promise to ‘heal the divides’,” said Alex Conant, Republican National Committee spokesman. “Rahm Emanuel is a partisan insider who played a lead role in breaking Washington. The White House needs a chief of staff - not a chief campaigner like Emanuel. Our nation will be ill-served if Obama runs the White House the way ‘Rahmbo’ ran the Democratic Congress.”
And this from minority leader John Boehner (R-OH):
“This is an ironic choice for a President-elect who has promised to change Washington, make politics more civil, and govern from the center.”
What do you think of Obama’s first move? A hit or a miss?

He’s not been sworn in yet. Give him a chance. Politicians (and the media) are more concerned about the politics of governing than average Americans are. We’re tired of listening to the whining of politicians from both parties. We elected them to get things done, not to act like spoiled brats. Americans elected the next president to get us out of the mess W and crew left behind; to get things done. In order to do that he needs all Americans’ support, including Republicans. I think Obama understands that.
It would be a mistake for Obama to concentrate on social issues, the things Rove counted on to divide the country. He needs concentrate on the economy and lay the framework that will improve the majority of American’s current financial status; things that will affect our everyday lives.
