Report: Clay Sr. questions Clinton claim
WASHINGTON _ In the same week that Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., admitted to embellishing the danger on a trip to Bosnia, a former St. Louis congressman is questioning her facts on another campaign claim.
Clinton has said she helped her husband pass the landmark Family and Medical Leave Act. But The Hill, a Capitol Hill newspaper, is reporting that former Rep. William Lacy Clay Sr., D-St. Louis, is circulating an email saying Sen. Clinton “never had anything to do with it.”
Clay was the bill’s primary sponsor in the House. Clinton’s husband signed the FMLA less than a month after taking office in 1993.
Clay is a Democrat and the father of Rep. William Lacy Clay Jr., who now represents his father’s former district. The younger clay supports presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill.
**UPDATE: The elder Clay confirmed to the Post-Dispatch that he sent an e-mail “to one person” but didn’t name the recipient. He said he has not endorsed either Obama or Clinton.
“She certainly didn’t lobby anyone in the House or Senate to change their votes. They didn’t need any lobbying,” Clay said, adding later, “I don’t know what the hell she’s talking about.”

Bill Maher made some really salient points about the Obama-Wright controversy and the scandals that plagued, and continue to plague, the Catholic Church in his blog today:

Bless Bill Maher’s heart, I even like him, very funny guy. But, he is so anti-God in fact, he is an athesist. He could not be fair or rational concerning anything or anyone connected in anyway to religion. Nice guy he is Bill Maher, but he is completely messed up, and morally challenged in many ways and don’t even realize it.
Sad state people are in when they look to Maher for wisdom.
Can anyone find anything right with what Rev. Wright said in the sermons at issue? Here’s one of them:

Can anyone find anything right with this other sermon of Rev. Wrights at issue? Here it is:

Walker - It seems that not only can Obama do no wrong in your eyes, but in fact nobody in any way connected to Obama can do any wrong either. You, and the CNN columnist, may attempt to explain things away, but we know what we heard, and what we heard was the rantings of a bigot.
Obama has said that we don’t understand Wright because he’s “of another age” and communicates differently. You could say the same thing about an old white guy who uses terms about black people that we now deem offensive. But you don’t. You say he is a racist. And the same thing is true about Wright.
As far as Maher’s being an “athesist” … I can assure you that many deeply religious people are offended by Wright’s sermons. Just because Maher isn’t a Christian doesn’t mean he’s wrong here.
PS - Wright’s church is building him a million dollar home on a golf course. Let’s hear the excuses about why THIS is ok …

Nick,
Everyone does wrong, there is no man alive under the sun who does no wrong. What matters is just how one respond to their wrongs. I am pleased by how Obama responds.
I have not been pleased with how our President, George Bush responds, nor am I pleased with how Hillary Clinton respond to her wrongs.
As far as the million dollar house, it was a gift upon retirement that his congregation felt he deserved. Being that it is legal and the fact that ABSOLUTELY NO ONE have any right to respond to what anyone choose to give as gifts,. I suggest you not respond to that because it is absolutely none of your business or anyone else’s. I realize that it is none of my business, any response to it would be judgmental on my part.
After the way certain Americans are responding to him, it may have been better to build him something 5X’s as much more in the range of 5+ million dollars, to include armed security, walls, security camras etc…something that resemble more of a secured fortress.
You know how red-neck and evil certain Americans can be, don’t you?
Also Nick,
It is just as impressive how the wealty memebers of that church help the poor in that church and the community that that church is in. Truly resemble the teachings in the Holy Scriptures.
TYPO correction: I meant, “wealthy members”
So tell me, Walker, was it anyone’s business that Joyce Meyer lived in a mansion that HER church provided? The Post certainly thought it was, and I didn’t hear anyone complaining about THAT expose. And what about Oral Roberts? Lots of people seem to have had a problem with his affluence too. I guess the moral of this story is, if you’re a flaming bigot of a black preacher milking a congregation of mostly poor blacks, it’s ok. But if you’re a white preacher who leads a worldwide ministry, you should live in a shack.
It is now time for Ms. Hillary to step out of the race, just for the sake of our beloved Democratic party.
