SCHULTE HONORED AND REMEMBERED: One of the accomplishments that did not get much attention in the stories written about the tragic death in May of 1st Lt. Roslyn Schulte of Ladue was that she had been a Veiled Prophet Maid of Honor in 2003 and was one of the first participants in the organization’s Community Service Initiative.
Schulte, 25, was killed May 20 by a roadside bomb near Kabul, Afghanistan. She was a graduate of John Burroughs School, where she had played field hockey, swam, was captain of the state championship lacrosse team and became an All-American lacrosse player.
After graduating from Burroughs, Schulte majored in political science at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo. She was a group commander at the Academy, which is one of the school’s highest positions, and had oversight for more than 1,000 cadets.
During the 132nd annual Veiled Prophet Parade on July 4th, the Community Service Initiative float will be dedicated to Schulte, who was the first female graduate of the Academy to die in combat since the school began accepting women in 1976.
Schulte’s parents, Robert Schulte and Susie Littmann Schulte, will join St. Louisan Charles Glenn when he sings the National Anthem at the VP Parade reviewing stand on Market Street.
All members of the military and their families will be recognized in comments during the opening ceremonies of the parade and at the reviewing stand.
