1st Lt. Roslyn Schulte to be honored at VP Parade on July 4
SCHULTE HONORED AND REMEMBERED: One of the accomplishments that did not get much attention in the stories written about the tragic death in May of 1st Lt. Roslyn Schulte of Ladue was that she had been a Veiled Prophet Maid of Honor in 2003 and was one of the first participants in the organization’s Community Service Initiative.
Schulte, 25, was killed May 20 by a roadside bomb near Kabul, Afghanistan. She was a graduate of John Burroughs School, where she had played field hockey, swam, was captain of the state championship lacrosse team and became an All-American lacrosse player.
After graduating from Burroughs, Schulte majored in political science at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo. She was a group commander at the Academy, which is one of the school’s highest positions, and had oversight for more than 1,000 cadets.
During the 132nd annual Veiled Prophet Parade on July 4th, the Community Service Initiative float will be dedicated to Schulte, who was the first female graduate of the Academy to die in combat since the school began accepting women in 1976.
Schulte’s parents, Robert Schulte and Susie Littmann Schulte, will join St. Louisan Charles Glenn when he sings the National Anthem at the VP Parade reviewing stand on Market Street.
All members of the military and their families will be recognized in comments during the opening ceremonies of the parade and at the reviewing stand.

Such a shame. What a beautiful young lady. My heart goes out to her family and friends. I want to thank her for her service to our country. May God take her in his arms, God bless you. Thanks again Bush, another one of our sweet american children lost to your ignorance.
Watch dog, very nice, considerant comment, until you ruined it showing your own ignorance in the last sentence.
Mr. Watch Dog-
You dishonor Lt. Schulte and her mission with your comments on (former) President Bush. I did not know her, but I am confident she would not have thought highly of your comments about her Commander-in-Chief. God Bless Lt. Schulte and her family.
I have a son in the Marines with duty in this war. It’s my comment, so shut your trap.
As a Marine currently serving in Afghanistan, I am sure your son is embarrassed to have you for a parent.
God bless the Schulte family.
Very respectfully.
She was c/o ‘06. If she had a problem with the administration’s policy she had plenty of time to opt out. She did not, which indicates she personally felt that she was doing the right thing. Having been in both Iraq and Afghanistan both early in the wars and recently, and seen the change that has happened there, I think she made the right choice too.
As the Mother of a USNA graduate female officer serving in Afghanistan, I am honored our children have the heart, integrity and most certainly the patriotism to serve our great nation.
This is not a time for politics; however, it is a time for prayer. Let us keep our children serving in Afghanistan and Iraq before the Lord as we celebrate our nations approaching anniversary, July 4th.
My heart goes out to the parents of 1st Lt Schulte and all of the families who’ve lost children serving.
I am very proud of my USNA graduate, USMC daughter and her commitment to God, Corps and Country.
What a nice tribute for Roz. She was a wonderful lady and greatly admired by peers and parents alike. As for the “watchdog” comment about Bush, I assure you Roz did kniow and volunteered to got to Afghanistan to do her duty for her country. We are very proud of her and grateful to her. We will all miss her but honor her for her choice to go into harm’s way to keep the people there on the ground safe through her Intel capabilities. She is a true American Hero.
Lt Laura Piper, Class of 1992, though killed in a friendly fire incident in the Northern Iraq no-fly zone, I think qualifies quite heartbreakingly as “…the first female graduate of the Academy to die in combat since the school began accepting women in 1976…” My thoughts and prayers are with the Schulte Family.
“Here’s a toast…”

Scotty

Watch dog I just want to say is shame on you to take a wonderful thing and make into a Bush bashing. You disgrace your son, yourself, our nation, and above all l the Life of Lt. Roslyn Schulte. My prayers for your soul tonight, you have to much hate for one person.
Scotty… pleased to see your post. I hope you and your family are well.
After learning of Roslyn’s sacrifice and gift to our freedom and security, I immediately thought of the life and sacrifice of our TrueBlue’92 classmate, Laura Piper. I remember her well, and will never forget the eulogy given at the USAFA Chapel by her then-fiance (also a 92 classmate). Those 15 yrs have gone by fast, haven’t they?
God Bless, Roslyn and her family & friends.
