Catherine and Chris Hanaway surprise Ray Wagner with a birthday bash
HANAWAYS HOST: Former U.S. Attorney Catherine Hanaway and her husband Chris Hanaway hosted a surprise birthday party at their home in Kirkwood last Saturday for Ray Wagner, a VP at Enterprise Rent-A-Car.
“Great news was that we actually surprised him,” Hanaway remarked. One of the best parts of the party was that Wagner’s wife, Ann Wagner, the U.S. Ambassador to Luxembourg, flew in unannounced for the occasion. Also, their son Raymond was in town for the party unannounced from Ft. Leonard Wood, where he is located after having completed his second year at West Point.
The crowd included a mix of Wagner’s family, colleagues from Enterprise and a variety of elected and appointed officials.
From Enterprise the guests included Pam Nicholson, prez and COO; Lee Kaplan, senior VP of Administration, and his wife Peggy; and Chrissy Taylor, Andy Taylor’s daughter and an employee of the company.
The elected and appointed officials included St. Louis County Executive Charlie Dooley; Missouri Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder; former U.S. Sen. Jim Talent and his wife Brenda; judges Duane Benton and Ray Gruender from the 8th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals, and Gruender’s wife Judy; and U.S. District Court Judge Steve Limbaugh and his wife Marsha, a powerhouse Wells Fargo broker.
Guests from the business world included Cindy Brinkley of AT&T who formerly was based here and is now in Dallas; Kathy Osborn, topper of the Regional Business Council and a director on the board of UMB; and Jerry Hunter, a partner with the Bryan Cave law firm.
One of the highlights of the night came while Ann Wagner was making a toast from atop the Hanaway’s diving board. While she was speaking, her husband jumped up onto the board and nearly bounced her into the pool. But the only late-night dip was taken by the Hanaway’s 6-year-old son, Jack. Their daughter, Lucy, 11, was the party’s hostess extraordinaire.

Hmmm…for some reason I thought the Wagners were Republicans, as his wife was at one time the Chairman of the State GOP and Vice Chair of the national GOP, and was then appointed to the Ambassadorship by the GOP Pres. Bush…soooo, what was Democrat Charlie Dooley doing at Mr. Wagners birthday party?
Maybe cuz it was a birthday party and not a political party.
Centwist, people that come my birthday parties are friends, which means generally we have much in common…guess Charlie Dooley and the Wagners are sympatico; I wondered why Ann Wagner continues to serve under the liberal Obama as Ambassador to Luxembourg…now I know why, she has moved to the Democratic Party.
Confused,
Society have become pretty sick and perverted when people actually believe that they cannot associate or be friends with others with different political views and opinions. I have many friends who are both Democrat and Republican. There are Democrats, Republicans, Independents and also Jehovah Witnesses whom have no political views nor can my Jehovah Witness family or friends take part in many of the things that I, my family and friends celebrate.
Not to mention all the other different religions within our circle from just about every Christian denomination from Non-Denominational, which I am, to Catholic and everything in between not to mention many Baptists to Muslims.
We are all extremely considerate of one another even though we don’t agree about many things or share many of the same beliefs or faiths or political views but we do truly love one another. We have had some very interesting conversations and never ever do we fight because of different opinions even though sometimes our discussions have gotten loud but never ever does anger enter or disrespect enter in. You know, speaking about my family and friends in spite of our many differences, in spite of the disagreements here just now brings up to my mind and heart just how blessed we all are to have one another in our lives. Seriously, I need nothing else.
And, I even associate with many sinners. LOL!
I wish you were only kidding as I was above. But, I can’t wrap my mind around the ability to avoid all these differences in people short of dying or having a very secluded and unfulfilling life. Get a grip!
By the way, it has also been reported that Catherine Hanahan and Democratic St. Louis City Prosecutor, Jennifer M. Joyce are very good friends and I believe since college. Now, I can certainly see why they are good friends, they truly seem to have characters and hearts that reeks of goodness in spite of the crazy circles they must tolerate and be part of in their choosen professions as attorneys and political figures. So far, it has not appear to have caused them to become soiled and that is truly a remarkable thing.
