NEWS FROM CHANNEL 5: Rebecca Wu, a news anchor at KSDK-TV (Channel 5), is rumored to be leaving the station to take a job with the FBI. Wu joined KSDK in 2003 after working as a reporter and fill-in anchor at KPTV-TV in Portland, Ore., beginning in 1999. She went there from Jacksonville, Fla.

Wu did not return messages and repeated phone calls Wednesday. Mike Shipley, news director at the station, said Wednesday: “There are some developments with Rebecca but I can’t go into the details. Call me back in a week.”

On the plus side of the ledger, the station has hired Ashley Yarchin to be a reporter. Yarchin, of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., is rumored to be the niece of Leisa
Zigman
, also a reporter at KSDK.

Yarchin did a stint at KSDK some years ago, where she has said she “did everything from rolling teleprompter to off-air reporting.” She graduated from Washington University with a degree in Comparative Arts in 2002.

While earning a master’s degree in journalism from Northwestern University, Yarchin worked in Washington as a capital correspondent for KMID-TV in Midland, Texas. After graduation from Northwestern, she was hired as a crime reporter for the West Texas station.

She left there in 2005 to be a general assignment reporter at WLTX-TV in South Carolina. That station and KSDK are owned by Gannett.

Here’s an update for those who call and write to ask about Deanne Lane. I was at a graduation party for a friend’s daughter on Saturday. It was a purely social event. Lane, who is friends with the couple that was holding the party, walked in, saw me and left. She has not returned phone calls since she was fired from KSDK in April. I have no idea what she is doing at this time.

Ms. Peterson, I suggest you get you facts straight before you publish anything concerning Deanne Lane. You could be looking for a slander suit otherwise. You might want to find out from Deanne or Mike Shipley the correct reason for her departure from the station. You should be embarassed to consider yourself a “journalist.”

Dear Deb, Here is what you wrote: “it is too bad about deanne. i wish she would just tell me that she has a confidentiality clause that prevents her from speaking about her plans, if that’s what it is. i would not have accosted her at the party, either. i would have asked her what she was doing but wouldn’t have persisted if she hadn’t want to talk about it.

You write for a newspaper and the above is full of fractured sentences. Is it you or is your shift key broke. Not one capital letter at the beginning of a sentence, pronoun or proper noun.

Libel. It’s libel. Slander is spoken, Aly McButterglunt.

I’m ready for my close-up now, Mr. Shipley.

Would anyone object if I provided my thoughts in an 8500 word essay?

Are you kidding me? Do you think so highly of yourself, I would leave a graduation party because you were there? Please get your facts straight.
I was not fired by KSDK, I CHOSE to leave, big difference!

Not that it is any of your concern, but I told the hostess of the party, I would stop by but couldn’t stay long. I came from my son’s double-header in St. Charles, even left while he was pitching, so I could congratulate the graduate and visit with some dear friends.
By the way, it was also my mother-in-law’s birthday, who we are caring for while she battles Alzheimers.
We also had relatives in town to celebrate her day and another graduation party.

Thanks to all the viewers and readers for the kind comments. I miss you too!! I am considering several options in and out of the media, but at the moment cherish being a full-time mom.
Deb, we have two more graduation parties this weekend, if you are there don’t be afraid to say hello.
Fondly,
Deanne
