Life after the Bush White House
BLOCK’S BACK: Jonathan Block, 25, is back in town after a few years in the Bush White House. Block, of Hillsboro, was assistant press secretary to Laura Bush.
Block, an ‘01 graduate of Hillsboro High School and an ‘05 grad of the Mizzou journalism school, went to work in the White House as a college intern and stayed. After working for Laura Bush, he traveled across the country on the campaign trail with Sen. John McCain and Gov. Sarah Palin as an image management consultant.
Asked if he thought he would find the Lou boring after D.C., Block laughed. “It was a great ride, but I didn’t want to stay there, ” he said. “I’m thrilled about the chance to be closer to family in St. Louis and to be back in my hometown.”
Later this week, Block will start a new job with St. Louis-based Accenture National Security Services. And next month, he’s looking forward to marrying a fellow j-school grad, Sara Alsup of Plano, Texas.
Alsup was a writer in college for Adelante, a Spanish-language newspaper, and for the Methodist Recorder in London. After graduation she taught fourth grade in Baltimore, Md., as part of Teach for America. Her most recent position was as academic director for Little Lights Urban Ministries in Washington.
The couple will get married at Lafayette Park United Methodist Church, followed by a reception at Sqwires on Lafayette Square. After their honeymoon, they will live in St. Louis. Block’s parents are Frank and Kitty Block of Hillsboro; Alsup’s are James and Lynn Alsup of Plano.

It’s a damn shame he didn’t hit Bush over the head with a 2X4 while he was there. WOW, how could you even work for that idiot. I wouldn’t brag about it. He also should have shoved a shoe in Palins mouth and gave insane McCain a good dose of ex-lax and sent them on their merry way. Lay Low Kid, the BS Bushes wrecked this country.
