Kirkwood High School musicians to perform at “The Road to Carnegie Hall” benefit
MORE THAN PRACTICE TO GET TO CARNEGIE HALL: Two musicians from the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra will be among some of the musically gifted Kirkwood High School orchestra alumni who will perform on Dec. 22 for “The Road to Carnegie Hall” Benefit Concert in the high school’s Keating Performing Arts Center.
Proceeds from the concert will help send students from the Kirkwood Symphonic Orchestra to a performance in NYC at Carnegie Hall in March. The school’s orchestra is one of three musical groups that were selected nationwide to perform at the Instrumental Music Festival in New York.
The Kirkwood orchestra grads who are scheduled to perform include: Felicia Foland, bassoonist, and Rebecca Boyer Hall, violinist, who are now with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra and who played in the school orchestra together; Patrice Jackson, cellist, daughter of high school orchestra director Patrick Jackson and a graduate of the Yale School of Music and The Juilliard School; The Freivogel Family Strings, featuring siblings Meg, Liz, J and Ben Freivogel, renowned string virtuosos; and Emilee Newell and Sarah Drake music majors at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music.
Patrick Jackson, Kirkwood Orchestra Director for the past 19 years, will also perform, along with students who are currently in the district’s orchestra program.
The performance, which will begin at 7 p.m., will be followed by a dessert buffet. The school is at 801 West Essex Avenue. Ticket information is available at www.kirkwoodschools.org

I am very proud of Mr. Jackson and his students. Congratulations. The Symphonic Orchestra students have embarked on their year-long fundraising campaign, “The Road to Carnegie Hall.” We encourage your support in their endeavors as they not only raise the necessary funds for the trip, but rehearse for the performance of a lifetime. The students need to raise $72,000 to cover the cost of their four-day trip.
