Code red at the Oscars
Red used to be a red carpet standard. It was the stop traffic go-to color for top stars. Red said power, authority and sex-appeal. Then one day, it was a rarely seen hue. No one wanted to be predictable. So yellow, blue, plum and silver dominated. We’ll there must have been some kind of harmonic convergence for the long-ignored hue. The stand-outs on the red carpet this season tended to blend in with it. It was as if the ground swelled up around these lovely ladies in individually provocative forms. Ruby Dee, Miley Cyrus, Katherine Heigl, Heidi Klum and Anne Hathaway bring red back in fashion.

Ruby Dee was the prettiest lady I saw all night.
Deb,
Last night, the number of first time Oscar winners was staggering, and it showed in their disjointed and rambling, sometimes indecipherable, acceptance speeches. Fashion-wise, it seemed like most of the stars played it safe and the overall effect was ho-hum. Except for the winner of best supporting actress - clearly, she did not expect to win, as evidenced by the fact that she forgot to do her make-up or to finish the left sleeve of her gown. That is, if you can call the black velour night-shirt she wore a “gown.” OMG - it reminded me of a black garbage bag you might pull over your clothes in desperation, when an unexpected downpour occurs while you’re camping! BTW - who do you like to win Project Runway’s 4th season? I’m ever so fond of Chris, but I think Christian will be the winner.
