Origins cosmetics debut at Target?
I’m used to encountering many pleasant surprises while cruising the aisles of my beloved Target, but Origins facial products. I had to blink twice.
Origins sells at lovely mint and ginger scent shops inside Macy’s and Dillard’s. Origins was the first facial product I ever splurged on as a teen. The eco-friendly concepts and packaging, still fill me warmth and security. But seeing it at Target rocked my world slightly off center.
If $48.50 is an acceptable price for a facial serum at a mass retailer like Target, what does that say about what we’ll accept in the future.
And, I’m sorry, but Origins price without the Origins experience just doesn’t seem special. It’s like buying M.A.C cosmetics at Walgreens or sniffing Prada cologne at Big Lots.
I love my mass retail, especially when it’s cute and stylish like Target, but I don’t want to buy my “luxury” goods there. I know, people have different points of view on how much is too much to spend on certain items, but if you can buy eye cream that costs most than an full-priced outfit (see the lovely color-blocked tunic by Jonathan Saunder for Target to your right, it’s a wonderful find for $17.99) including shoes, then something’s askew.
But if you like mixing your high and low purchases under one roof, run-don’t-walk to the Target at Hampton Village, 4255 Hampton Avenue. The store has a bigger customer base so it’s often the test market for new Targt products, so for now, the retailer test marketing how costumer tolerate a few Origins products on the shelves next to the Noxema and Oil of Olay.

I know how you feel, Deb. I felt the same several years ago when I discovered that Target carried Nexxus hair products. Now if only they could carry Clinique–shopping at Target would be even cuter, if not cheaper!
For some reason, I think Clinique would be a better fit than Origins. At least the price point would be lower.
Sorta related: I see Target is now carrying a line of men’s underthings called Evolve by 2xist. They’re quite affordable, but I’m not sure how “luxury” they are. The brand association certainly can’t hurt, though.
I’m not familiar with the Evolve line but 2xist is a pretty upscale men’s underwear line. For obvious reasons, I hadn’t wandered down that aisle. Thanks for bringing that up. I’m constantly shocked at the men’s underwear market.
