Wonderwear flexes muscle on saggy butts

The newest shapewear product on the market for women is actually a modified menswear undergarment.

The new “WonderWear” underwear, $43, aims to lift and contour a woman’s butt.

An innovative “lift” system is built into the seams in the underwear — there are no hidden straps or pads. The underwear company claims that the product is as comfortable to wear as it is cute.

And, yes, I am fully aware that the model above is not a good role model for this product because her butt is obviously, perfectly-toned and annoying. I wonder about the real world trials of these undies.

I do think they are super cute for shapewear, but I’m not sure about how practical they would be if you have some extra soft-tissue (i.e. flab) issues. I’m a little skeptical about the fit around the legs (would it be too binding, and would the fabric roll up at the edges), so if anyone tries them out, please let me know.

But having said that, I could see these being a great product for a slim woman who is not keen on exercise or an older woman who is pretty fit, but gravity has taken a toll on her rear. Squats can only do so much.

The designer of these undies is Andrew Christian, who has specialized in men’s underwear. This is a female version of the popular male Flashback bubble butt underwear, pictured at left, which sells for $29. And I’m not going to rant about the fact that the men’s option is so much more inexpensive (about a third less), not cheap mind you, but inexpensive then the women’s product. But I wanted you to know that I noticed.

If you have a waist bigger than 30-32, you can’t wear these because that’s the limit. Well, counts me out!

These are a good thought, but it seems like any pooch in your belly and they wouldn’t fit. Not a good match for me, then. Good idea, though.
