Stylist will fight comb-to-comb wielding curling irons and hairspray during the debut of the Beauty Battle at the event-happy Home Nightclub at Ameristar Casino Resort Spa in St. Charles.

Salons, stylists, models, designers, and fashionistas will come together Thursday (Jan. 29) around 10 p.m. for a night of hair artistry. We expect a fair amount of attitude and catty remarks as well.

There will be six competing salons:  Dominic Michael, Salon Dacota, Salon Napoli, St. Louis Academy of Paul Mitchell, Studio Branca and Xenon Academy. Each salon will be featured in on one of the performance boxes or center stage.  The grand, salon stylist winner, will receive $500 in winnings. But the big prize will be bragging rights.

Fashion consultant and style guy extraordinaire Darin Slyman, as known as D-Sly, and yours truly, only known as “hey, you,” Deb or Debra, but never ever Debbie, will be judging the event.

I’m told that stylist will be showcasing looks that go from day to night or night to ballroom or punk ball to debutant gala or something like that. I was instantly intrigued.

I’m a huge fan of exploring your hair potential (personally, I’ve had a hair weave so long that it reached my butt and I’ve shaved my head so close that you could see scalp, although I wish I hadn’t done it when the weather was turning cold), so I’m in favor of any one that encourages people to mix it up.

We change our clothes every day, why the heck can’t we alternate hairstyles more. People who stick to one hair for all occasions just remind me of those paper dolls that you can change their clothes, but nothing else ever varies.

Celebs are infamous for changing their looks. They know that it’s part of what keeps them interesting.

But times are tough, so if you’re looking for more tips on cheaper ways to shop, eat and have fun head over to Karen Deer’s Steals & Deals: Today she gives details a mega-sale on boutique items from more than a dozen shops being held this weekend warehouse-styles.
