Senator Hillary Clinton looks stately, but dated
Hillary’s on her way to an inaugural dinner, but for a presidency that is said to be embarking on a new era, Clinton seems dressed for a very old one. In a previous post, I said Michelle’s dress will look nice in a museum later. This one looks like it was borrowed from one.
And, Hillary, we love your spunk, but geez Louise, I wish you would learn to smile without looking quite so unnatural. Bill makes it seems so sly and easy.
Oh, the well-dressed gent also pictured is philanthropist Eli Broad.
And, just in case you’re on the verge of yelling at me about that Hillary comment.
The prosecution rests.

A wayward soul from Las Vegas, Nevada, who now calls St. Louis home and believes that fashion is relative and capricious, but style is always in favor.
Lol…on unnatural smile. The gown certainly looks as if she borrowed it from Queen Elizabeth.
Deb - You’re a horse’s ass. Hillary Clinton has done more for women and for this country than you can ever even dream, and all you can do is whine about her dress and smile. Get a life, Deb.
They both make my skin crawl….regardless of what they’re wearing or how they’re smiling. Slime, slime, slime….
Robert, please re-read what this blog is about: “Fashion editor Debra D. Bass blogs about all things fashion, including developing trends, odd and wonderful new products, the ins and outs of New York fashion and our very own St. Louis Fashion Week foray.” It never mentions politics or advancing women in this country or others.
Hillary has always been a fashion nightmare, and her expressions, smiles, laughter are comics’ dream material. Mamie Eisenhower’s dresses look more hip and up-to-date than anything Hillary has worn in recent memory.
I could care less what Hillary Clinton is wearing, how she smiles or what her laugh sounds like. She’s one of the smartest people on the planet and her work ethic is unmatched. That is what should count.
Give Hilary some credit. No one in recent history has ridden coat-tails better than her. She has shown to a generation of young women the quickest way to power. Most young women thought money was the best they could get from a marriage. Hilary has shown how to get much much more.
Hillary isn’t photogenic. She doesn’t have the body type that looks especially fabulous in most fashion. I also suspect that she doesn’t agonize over what she’s wearing or what we fashionistas think about it.
That said, I admire the heck out of Hillary for her intellect and her commitment to this nation. She’ll be a work-horse as Secretary of State and I’m so pleased to read that she was confirmed for that post today.
So…keep smiling, Hill.
How she suppose to look (or dress)? Like Paris Hilton?
Rightly or wrongly, I don’t regret anything I said above. Yes, I can be a bit of an ass. It’s part of my charm. And, no, I don’t think she should dress like Paris Hilton. But there’s a lot of room in between Hilton and the Victoria era.
It’s ridiculous to say that we shouldn’t have opinions on looks or appearance. It doesn’t have to be an important factor, but it’s going to be a factor. If President Obama dressed in rumpled suits or had walked out dressed like a character out of the 1800s, people would have talked A LOT!!!
I have always wondered why Hillary has to over do her expressions! It looks ridiculous. She always looks like she has spotted something incredible. You would think she would take note of this when she sees herself in photos, etc. Remember, people, that ANYONE…whether it be in public office or a celebrity…they are critiqued for what they wear! That is just how it is, no matter how smart or beautiful they are. So, don’t take things so serious.
