Only in New York: Handbags as hats and barefeet with cocktail dresses

Well, thank goodness, not everything on the runways is meant to become a trend.
However, these two oddities — the handbag hats and barefoot strolls — allude to real-world ideas that are not so far-fetched.
At Brian Reyes Thursday morning show, the normally blase fashion audience watched nervously as models maneuvered the runway in five-inch-high Manolo Blahniks.
Though models are accustomed to cruising around on stilts, some of the shoes were too big and the ladies kept walking out of them. Watch them weeble and wooble, but not fall down here.
No one was hurt, but the sense of doom at the Reyes’ show was said to be palpable. So for the encore walk, Reyes showed that he not only had a heart but a sense of humor and sent all the models out barefoot.
Could this be a sign that sane footwear will one day be in fashion?
Meanwhile in the land of lost sanity, our friend Issac Mizrahi chose to top off his fall runway looks with a series of what looked like handbags with the bottoms cut out.
At first blush, sure, I know what you’re thinking. That’s a nutty ploy to get some attention, but wait.
While shopping, women are thinking a lot more about the contents of their purse. Is he trying to say that it’s OK that we start thinking more with our wallets and less with our impulses.
Perhaps…
Or maybe, the designer is just offering up alternative uses for our empty handbags after a shopping spree.

“Sane footwear” indeed.
Perhaps “sans footwear” even better. Certainly don’t need to worry about falling off!

Manolo Blahnik has been the culprit behind many women’s walking woes, this isn’t news
the barefoot finale may have been a fashion first, but it breathed some much needed life into fashion week. i say Bravo to Brian Reyes for an excellent line and good humor.
How about Ancient Egyptian ala King Tut - would look much prettier.
