Tia Carrere wears a $100 outfit

Tia, an unlikely Grammy Award winner, said that she bought everything she’s wearing on eBay.

In light of the economy, the Hawaiian beauty wanted to show-off what you can do for $100 on the red carpet as a symbol of the frugal fashionista.

But the cynic in me thinks that Miss Tia is getting a big, fat check from the online auction site for saying “eBay”.

In light of the economy, we don’t blame her.

The outfit is only shrug-worthy. It’s not horrible. And we know for a fact that she could have paid much, much more and done much, much worse.

The plunging neckline is actually not terrible. It’s even praiseworthy. It dips but isn’t all that revealing and it is balanced with beaded landmark at the waist as an anchor and a long fluted skirt for fun.

I am yawning over the hair and make-up though. Her hair should be up and her eyes should say night-time, but that’s just me talking from my living room in my Target bathrobe.

Does rouching always have to look like $100?

By the way, for what did Tia win a Grammy?

Tia won for the hotly contested Grammy category: Best Hawaiian Music Album.

By the way, I may have been wrong about the eBay endorsement.
A Los Angeles Times blog reported: That Tia was dressed by a stylist.

Her dress was found on eBay for $30. Her purse from a shop in downtown LA for $20. Bangles and earrings are costume creations from L.A. designer Lotta Stensson (total cost $45). Tia’s heels are 10 years old, out of her closet, and they were originally purchased on sale at 75% off.

Tia collaborated with celebrity stylist George Blodwell to keep the total under $100.

truthfully, tia had to find an outfit under $100 because that’s about all she could afford. she, like most americans, has been out of work and the residual checks for her well-watched t.v. shows have stopped coming in (wait…was there ever such a show for her?). i just know this, she should truly appreciate that award because she has never and will never win one for acting.

Thanks Tia for your support of all the people struggling to make ends meet. This effort will no doubt pull us out of the recession and into an economic utopia. You are a national hero for this.

I wonder how much eBay paid her for this…and if you think it was nothing then you are kidding yourself.

Tim,
Tia also wore Lotta earrings, and it doesn´t mean she was paid to endorse them. She was simply asked what she wore and she responded.

At most, may comp a free purse, dress or jewelry on occasion - but they rarely pay c-list celebs to wear their product.

Saria, we are talking about eBay here, not a manufacturer of trinkets and baubles. To get someone to regurgitate “eBay” would be a marketing ploy for which she was no doubt compensated. Do you even know what eBay is???
