1 dress, 365 days: Sounds like torture, looks like fun
Most women would rather be caught dead than wearing the same thing two days in a row (it’s called the walk of shame for a reason), but someone is out to prove us all wrong.
Sheena Matheiken embarked on a mission May 1 to go an entire year, 365 calendar days in the same dress (well, seven identical dresses to be exact). But being a die-hard fashionista, she was determined not to compromise her style in the process and three months into the project, she hasn’t.
Everyday, the little black dress is made new again.
She’s dubbed her efforts The Uniform Project and she’s raising funds and awareness for the Akanksha Foundation, a grassroots movement that is revolutionizing education in India.
At the end of the year, all contributions will go toward Akanksha’s School Project to fund uniforms and other educational expenses for slum children in India.
The dress has buttons up the back and is designed by Sheena’s friend, Eliza Starbuck, to be worn backwards and forewords or open as a cardigan tunic. And something tells me that it will soon be available for purchase.
The popular stylista newsletter of all things cool, Daily Candy offered this kudos: “If wearing the same outfit three - okay, five - days in a row is wrong, we don’t want to be right,” in support, the genius behind The Uniform Project.
Check out the Daily Candy video, “Same As I Ever Was,” featuring an interview with Sheena.
Sheena’s inspiring collection of unique looks revolving around one dress can be viewed at http://www.theuniformproject.com. You can help her out by making a donation to the school or donating some accessories for Sheena to play with.
She is on day 69 of her efforts and the gallery of images is sure to put a smile on your face and make you second-guess ever lamenting, “I have nothing to wear.”

A wayward soul from Las Vegas, Nevada, who now calls St. Louis home and believes that fashion is relative and capricious, but style is always in favor.
What a great idea. Website bookmarked!
Stupid.
You’d have to have a plethora of accessories so you might as well buy another dress or two.
nice legs…
What an interesting idea! A link to this article has been submitted to Good News Now (www.GoodNewsNow.com).
Even the idea of the “walk of shame” is offensive. Wearing a clean garment more than once is only rational. I’m thinkin’ she shouldn’t need SEVEN of them. Heck, I’m thinkin’ she doesn’t need to go to such extremes to make each day distinctive. Jeez Louise! It’s just clothes people — not war or famine or even hardship.
