Not much ado about Michelle Obama’s new ‘do
The look is shorter and feels a little 90s newscast anchorwoman, but I like the chin-length bob she unveiled on Tuesday. It’s a smart look on the 45-year-old First Lady.
But she’ll spend more time on upkeep. Short cuts look zippier, they are a tad more high-maintenance.
Honestly, I’d like her to go with shorter layers. Something a little closer (but not mimicking) Halle Berry than 90s newscast anchorwoman.
However, I can see why that might not be a wise political choice. A world leaders’ leading lady has to look stately, not sexy.
Still, the L.A. Times called it matronly. The Boston Herald joked that Obama’s famed arms will now have to take a backseat to her new hot feature: her neck. Us Magazine said she “rocked an elegant shorter hairstyle.”
The New York Daily news reported the “stir” and “flurry of attention” when Michelle wore her usually straight hair in an updo (when she spoke at the Transportation Department in February), so I was expecting a little more chatter throughout the land this time. That’s the look on the right from February and it doesn’t look too different from her current do.
Was she prepping us?
Johnny Wright, Michelle’s official stylist, didn’t even hint at any changes to come in his March profile in the Washington Post. He was the stylist who “coiffed her for the official White House portrait, in which she smiles exquisitely from beneath a perfect modified bob wearing a designer (Michael Kors) little black dress and double strands of pearls.”
And so the world has shrugged at Michelle’s new do. Maybe it’s a good sign that we’re developing a healthier response to Michelle than hysteria.

A wayward soul from Las Vegas, Nevada, who now calls St. Louis home and believes that fashion is relative and capricious, but style is always in favor.
I like the new haircut of our First Lady Michelle Obama. I think it is very flattering to her. Keep up the good work Mrs. Obama. I like your style.
First of all, her sense of style is not good. I have seen her wearing such dowdy clothes, I wouldn’t be caught dead in them. The portriat for the White House is nice. The new haircut looks attractive on her. But someone should help her with the Alvira eyebrows.
I like the cut and it is good idea with DC’s humid summers. I just wish someone could tell her to stop pushing out her lips pursing them in such a manner that it comes off as this quirky smirk. She does this quite a lot and I suppose it’s a mannerism of hers. Nevertheless, it’s not attractive.
