Alan Cumming nearly succeeds on red carpet
The 43-year-old Scot known most recently for being painted blue with claws in X-Men actually looks conservative here. The non-tie suit is obviously not formal in any way, but the color choice is fetching and the cut of his jacket and pants is great. If he were going to a movie premiere instead of the Emmy’s, I’d like it more. Yet, I don’t hate it.
But on second blush I am slightly annoyed by the short four-button jacket that seems to hit him at the wrong spot and the teeny-tiny lapels that draw attention to his sloppy shirt collar and lack of tie. The whole thing looks too snug. And the shoes are just not forgivable. If every woman within shouting distance can tromp around in the most disagreeable heels for the sake of style, the least he can do is put up a little effort.
The hair, not my taste, but not necessarily inappropriate for black tie.
Overall, he gets a thumbs down from me. But an “A” for effort. Someone thought hard about this ensemble, but they should have been second-guessed.
