The ideal woman for the new, Lola Marc Jacobs, scent is described like this:

“She’s sexy with a fun, flirtatious wink

Coquettish and a bit provocative

Relaxed, cool and confident

Playful alluring and irresistibly tempting.”

And she’s being personified by our local supermodel Karlie Kloss of Webster Groves High School in a new ad photographed by the edgy off-beat photographer Juergen Teller.

The 16-year-old Kloss is profiled in the W Editor’s Blog, because she was also selected for the Spring 2009 Dolce & Gabbana and Fall 2009 Chloe ad campaigns, as well as featured in a spread in W Magazine.

Here’s what she said about being selected as the face of the sexy new fragrance from Marc Jacobs:

“I didn’t believe it, to be honest. I was shocked. I was like, “No, you’re kidding me. Me? Marc Jacobs knows my name?!”

The look of the surreal floral bouquet bottle was designed by Marc Jacobs. The look feminine to be sure, but also playful and defiant.

The fragrance inside is described as a warm floral bouquet with a signature note of fuschia peony, mixed with the scent of pink peppercorn, pear d’anjou, ruby red grapefruit and soft touches of rose and geranium.

The lingering base contains a seductive concoction of vanilla, tonka bean and creamy musk.

The collection includes the eau de parfum ($65-$85), body lotion ($45), shower gel ($40), body cream ($50)

The suite is now available exclusively at Bloomingdales, but will be distributed to select specialty retailers beginning in September.

From the looks of this ad the product is for some reason being marketed to pedophiles.

Wait a second! From the article: “She’s sexy with a fun, flirtatious wink coquettish and a bit provocative…irresistibly tempting.”

She’s 16! This is exactly what is wrong with this society. So many mixed messages. If a 40 year old truck driver described this girl in this way, he’d be rightfully vilified and called a pervert. It’s perfectly all right, though, for a company to market what is legally still a child as a sexual ideal. Everyone thinks it’s great and it’s aimed at women!

I could say much more but I don’t have the time or patience. Shame on her parents and Marc Jacobs for perpetuating this craziness!

Enough!

You know what Hugh and Miss Mimi, I did think of that, that’s why I wanted to mention her age with the ad copy. I go back and forth and back and forth on this issue.
I would like to think it’s marketed toward women who want to feel as beautiful and liberated as they did when they were younger. And I’d like to think that Karlie photographs as a more mature woman than most high school girls, but I often wonder how young is too young for such things.

Yesterday, on this website, there was an article about a priest that was arrested for arranging to pay to have oral sex with a 16 year old girl and this article about a 16 year old girl being described as “sexy, coquettish, provocative, tempting”.

And we wonder WHY.

I wish Karlie all the success in the world, beauty isn’t forever and hopefully she has parents that will help her invest her income NOW so that she can live well later. But, really, I wish she were doing more age appropriate modelling.
