Pretty necklace does tricks and could kill you

OK, just joking about that kill part, but really anything’s possible. Anyway, this very cool line of necklaces from Omne by Gemma Redux appeals to me because it can be as funky or tame as you want it to be.

The multi-chain contraptions recently glorified in the Daily Candy e-newsletter transform from a jangled mess of edgy sculpture into simple symmetrical items fit for a granny. In fact, in the Daily Candy video, it’s shown on a granny (or at least the kind of actor you might order from central casting if one were looking for a granny type).

The prices range from $98 to $158.

The chains convert from choker to scarf and headband to bracelet. And the beauty is that every time you wear it, it forms a new work of art (some might say tangled mess, but we say boo-hiss to the naysayers).

A powerful “rare earth magnet” holds the industrial metal of copper, dark steel and stainless steel chains together. But all things of beauty have a dangerous edge, the magnets are apparently so strong that they can be dangerous without proper care according to the disclaimer. It uses words like “launch,” “shattering magnets,” and “pinched” body parts:

The neodymium magnets used in the Omne collection are extremely strong, and must be handled with care to avoid personal injury and damage to the magnets. Fingers and other body parts can get severely pinched between two attracting magnets. Neodymium magnets are brittle, and can peel, crack or shatter if allowed to slam together. Use eye protection when handling multiple magnets, because shattering magnets can launch pieces at great speeds.

It’s probably just a legal necessity, but it makes you wonder why stilettos don’t come with disclaimers about stepping off curbs and running the risk of falling in front of buses.

I really like the multi-chains over pearls layering I’ve seen this season - those dark steel colored metals are my favorite. Thank for the tip, Deb!

Hi Debra,

This is Rachel @ Gemma Redux — a friend sent me your link, she thought it was hilarious. Thanks for the mention! And yep, its a legal necessity (courtesy of our magnet makers) - they are seriously strong, but make some seriously sick fashion.

Thanks again!

Cheers,

R

Rachel, I’m soooo glad you thought that was funny. You never know if someone will have a sense of humor about such things. Great product.

What fun! I am so in love with Gemma Redux–their designs hit luxury and edgy just right. The rocks designs are my personal faves: http://bit.ly/2rJMg
