Exactly what I said - Johnny Depp? Really??? I demand a recount! SO many other cuties that JD can’t even hold a candle to.

I think Depp is great. Has a sparkle in his eyes that transcends even the most unusual costume he wears and a mind that he uses to foil the paparazzi and to voice an opinion. That alone makes him much more appealing to me than the pretty boy, over-worked, vulgar, womanizing dolts out there. Speaking of hygiene-challenged, any one check out Robert Pattinson’s (Twilight) self admitted inability to regularly shower? He admitted he has a person responsible for giving him a heads-up when the residue in his hair has hit such an overload that it’s found scattered all over his shoulders and to wearing shirts that stink so badly even he found himself offensive. Now that’s sexy!

I agree with the vote, not because of the pirates’ dirty look (though he’s not bad), but because of many of his other roles. Chocolat - yummy, hands down best look for him IMO. Don Juan - talk about world’s greatest lover. Finding Neverland - boyhood charm and a babydoll face. You can’t beat his quick smile or eyes, and when he does show his body, it’s not bad either. Of course, his charm and humor (wonderful dad) don’t hurt.

I agree Ryan has the body, but I personally have never liked his overall looks. Same with Jake. They have one or two good features, but need some help packaging. Several of the picks this year had be scratching my head, but each has a good quality that sticks out. I personally think Hugh Jackman should still be sexiest whether he has a role or not, but I’ll definitely take Johnny in his place.

On a side note, the cover photo could have been better…

Laura: and my teenaged daughter and her friends would agree with you. At the risk of sounding like a dinosaur, I’m happy to hear that there are younger women out there who appreciate a guy with some character, depth, and looks beyond the cookie-cutter over-worked faces offered in most of the current teen mags, teen movies, teen ads. Good for you Laura. Most of the guys being passed off as Hollywood’s new “men” strike me as the kind that would run screaming away from a mugger and leave their woman standing alone to fend for herself. Plus, Depp isn’t a Hollywood pawn and that’s very sexy.

Marymae hit the nail on the head!! Sometimes “sexy” means more than one’s physical appearance. It goes beyond that. I would bet my life that Pattinson will not even be around in 20 years!! Johnny Depp is the most talented actor on the planet!! I’ve been watching him since Wes Craven had him devoured and spewed out of a bed! He’s an amazing, humble, wonderful human being and is much deserving of the title People’s Sexiest Man 2009!!! Love you Johnny, keep making us smile!!

Yes, really - he’s incredibly sexy and beautiful. I was mad he didn’t get it last year. With a smidge of effort, you could have found a gorgeous picture of him instead of this one. How about ANY of the shots from Public Enemies or the Rum Diary shoot.

Maria. I do think Johnny cleans up well, when he puts in the effort (or, perhaps when a stylish convinces him), but honestly, this was from his most recent appearance at a festival in Europe. I picked the best of three shots the were the most current. In the other picks he was wearing a sort of half pony tail thing that didn’t look flattering.
