As part of Wahl’s “Let it grow” charity tour, the company that makes a profit from facial hair is coming to St. Louis. Stop by the Arch-Laclede’s Landing from 2 to 10 p.m for a tour of the 38-foot long mobile barber shop that serves as a mobile facial hair trimming station with barber stations and expert trimming stylists onsite to offer FREE trims, trimming tips and style trends.

Bring your old razors, scissors, or out-of-date trimmers - and for each item that WAHL collects, the company will donate $10 to YMCA. The WAHL Let It Grow Charity Tour is also making a stop here in search of the best in facial hair achievements.

So if you’re sporting Fu Manchus and goatees that make people stop and stare, or unbelievable beards and mustache Wahl is looking for you to compete in its Men of the Year best beard, mustache, and goatee national competition. Check out www.wahlnation.com for more details.

Debra,

We at your St. Louis-based American Mustache Institute (http://www.AmericanMustacheInstitute.org) wish to address a few issues per your column.

While we appreciate your writing on facial hair, the Mustached American race does not recognize the bearded to goateed people, as each form of facial hair represents the “spousal compromise,” which is the half-way meeting point between the weakness of the clean-shaven and the power of the mustache. The name is derived from what spouses generally site as the point of facial hair they are willing to allow - unable to cope with the sheer divinity of the soup strainer.

That being said,we are amazed that Wahl has not approached AMI, as we are the leading global authority on facial hair issues.

Regardless, for a hometown event that is not tied to corporate sales - which is what Wahl is a shill for - don’t forget the Oct. 25 ‘Stache Bash 2008, a fundraiser for St. Louis Challenger Baseball, a baseball league for the disabled. Read more here: http://www.americanmustacheinstitute.org/StacheBash.aspx.

Otherwise, fine work.
