My love of bacon put to the test by bacon dress
OK, so I am known to love bacon.
I’ve been asked to sample the new bacon vodka. I’ve tried bacon desserts and bacon salt.
I’ve got a T-shirt that says, “Bacon, it’s the candy bar of meats!” A product slogan for which I believe truer words have never been spoken. I don’t know why that’s not on commercials hailing the virtues of bacon.
But then again, what is there to advertise. Unless you have philosophical or religious views against bacon, who doesn’t love it.
And yet, the idea of a dress embellished with bacon — real bacon — makes my stomach a little queasy.
This creation comes from the innovative costume queen Jia Jem
Of her design, she writes:
“I chose salami because it’s thin, keeps in one piece, and is quite cheap, and bacon because it looks very, um, meaty. I considered somehow vacuum-sealing sheets of meat with those sealers they have on the markets now, but the machines were too expensive for a one-time-only disposeable dress. I ended up using the K.I.S.S. method of construction, which involved a basic shift dress out of thick cotton. I layed the meat on top, then put clear vinyl over it and sewed tracks with clear thread. I used a wide stitch length to avoid perforating the meat to the point it might just… uh, slide down the bottom of the dress. I also blotted it all before sewing to get rid of as much grease as possible to avoid clouding the vinyl. Lastly, I made sure to bind the bottom of the dress with a strip of clear vinyl to catch drips. (I love talking about this; it’s so disgusting.) The whole project took about 6 hours, and I kept it refrigerated until the party. Good times.”
A little note, she also added later: The dress made her very attractive to men. Hmmm.

This is one of the most disgusting things I’ve ever read. The fact is, there are far too many people on this planet and far too little resources for everybody. It takes so much land, water, energy, fertilizer, etc to raise meat. And then we treat these animals like garbage. People are so vastly, vastly ignorant. That second link proves beyond any doubt that we’re quickly meeting the end here. Shame on anyone who is too ignorant to think deeply on these issues. Fact: If Americans ate no meat, we could feed an additional billion people in the world. My heart breaks over the fact that people can be THIS selfish.

What an awful waste. I’m not a vegetarian but I do try to honour and respect the fact that animals have to die in order to sustain us. Your dress may be creative, but I find it very disrespecful.
A dress is a dress. Fashion statements come in all forms. Why not advertise your love of food?

The fact is we can feed the world with the resources we have now. The problem is getting to the people who need it — more often than not, past governments who are more interested in staying in power than seeing their people fed.
And argument about bacon is an idiotic argument. If you’re so mad about the bacon dress, those self-righteous enough to feel the burn should make a contribution immediately to Feed the Children to compensate for the wicked bacon wearing people. OK?
