Commonwealth Utilities menswear uncommonly good

OK, so I’m going to learn to put my camera on the right aspect ratio one of these days. So, in the meantime, you get to look at the finale in widescreen.

This clever menswear line held their show in a “greaser” style basement barber shop in a New York’s East Village on Sunday night. My invitation was a matchbook sized card and a men’s grooming comb in an evidence-style bag. How could I not go?

The show began with about six of the models covered by those black barber’s aprons and each was getting their hair styled. The capacity crowd busied itself gawking and snapping pics until the show started. Then models from backstage cycled in and at intervals the guys sitting in the chairs stripped off their capes and strutted down the makeshift catwalk in the center of the shop.

It was positively delightful in every way.

The trim and tight shorts were balanced by long relaxed, slightly-slouchy pants. But both extremes might not appeal to the typical male. That’s OK.

The jackets and shirts were killer for men of all sexualities (is that a word). And can I just say that I think I’m in love with the crazy big bow ties on the military-inspired dress shirts. It’ll never be mainstream, but I can’t wait for a sighting among a daring fellow who wants to stand out and look good.

And if you haven’t taken a tour of Commonwealth Utilities website (click here). Run, don’t walk. And if they every make a screensaver out of that opening screen. I want it!
